Robert Cook. The murder happened in 1959. But the big unanswered question: Where was he caught and where was he initially held (same town)?

Nope and nope. Ok hint time - because this is my home town and I'm proud of this fact - it also has (IMHO) the best gun/sports shop in Alberta.

BTW, I think I'll be adding to some of the questionable facts on the Robert Cook wikipedia entry.

I'm pretty sure he was hanged in 1885 but as for dates.... All I can remember from Univ. history was fall (oct/nov?)

Nov. 16, 1885...okay...I cheated....found a book I had on him....over to one of the 2 previous posters.....

k...the Alaska Highway was built in 9 mos....pretty incredible when you see the land it traversed......What did the construction crews do when they lost a Cat in the muskeg????? remember this was '44 and '45

pretty close......drop 1 in the muskeg, let it settle, run another one in, and so on , until they had a base to carry on. Didn't beleive the story from my Dad until I drove it in '77 and talked to some folks....amazing. Also, most of the construction co's. in NE BC and NW Alberta got their start when the highway was done because the US gov't. figured it would cost too much to haul the equipment south....so it was left on the side of the road....take it if you want it...pretty lame question....but kind of neat history.....back to BB
