I'm not defending, I'm posting my opinion just as you are. If there is a lesser of the two, yes I am of the opinion that marijuana is lower on the scale. Doesn't really matter to me if that's alright with you or not. It's an open conversation.

I was a teenager at the time,I never really liked drugs that much but I decided to try it at maybe 16,did it on and off for a few years til I was probably 19,I had a bad experience with some weed maybe it was laced with something I don't know but I haven't touched it since,I don't regret doing it really I got it out of my system and it has been 11 years since I did it so I doubt I will be turning back.some people have drug/alcohol problems that's their way of dealing with things and if you take something away they will replace it with something else, alcoholics annonamous is the biggest pile of crap going, just guys sitting around a campfire smoking joints and reading the bible.

LOL Baiting you for a fight? I thought I was having a calm philosophical discussion. Look, I agree drugs can be harmful. I don't argue that pot is or isn't a gateway drug. Heck, I'll accept that it is. I don't advocate making use by or sales to minors legal. I'm just asking how one ON THIS FREEDOM-LOVING BOARD can advocate having the state tell an otherwise law-abiding adult what they can or cannot injest in their own home when it impacts no one else? Not talking about driving. If I want to temporarily impair my faculties in my mancave on a Sunday afternoon what politician should tell me he's going to throw me in jail for it?

people have their blinders on okie, what anybody does on their own time with their own money presuming it's not harming anybody else should be their business, because a small percentage of people take it too far shouldn't mean everybody is not allowed to do something, people drive and get killed everyday, drink and die from it,some people take too many painkillers and die why should weed be any different than these things, I don't want anymore nanny state we have too much already.funny how "conservatives" believe in less government but not in cases of drug addiction, abortion, same sex marriage, gay rights those things need more government intervention.

Okotokian,
You've heard the saying " Children learn what they live" ? So what are you teaching you children? You stated that you worked in the Boyle street area as a SW. I lost a few kids in that area to drugs. Now I'm guessing as a SW you probably have lost a few people to drugs also? Now lets take a moment and reflect what if one of those people that you lost had been one of your kids? They died because they tried a joint just like dad does because it helps him to relax and get baked so why can't they. The difference is they got the joint from a dealer who laced it with heroin, crack, crystal meth, ecstasy. the only difference is you're alive they aren't.
You're careful or you try to be how about who you get it from? Everytime you get it from someone your takeing your life in your hands.
The government is supposed to regulate it. I work for the government I know how they operate. Nothing is 100% safe.
Just some things for you to think about.

No the video game addiction comment isn't helpful because we are talking about drugs being legalized. This was thrown out to send the thread side-ways.
Videogames won't become illegal.

More resources on the war on drugs should be put into keeping teenagers away from drugs, if you don't do drugs as a teen it is very unlikely you will do hard drugs as an adult. I don't know what more can be done but something, well I do know but would get banned if I said so.
They need to make a cheap drug test you can buy at the store that parents can buy to test there kids, if every parent tested there kids every couple months it would at least cut down on the chances that good kids would try them.
On a side note I don't believe drug users should serve jail time just for using or being in possesion ofsmall amounts of illegal drugs, fines and community service would be better cheaper options for hard drugs, then again there probably isn't many people in jail in Canada just for simply possession. We always seem to focus on the users or the easy targets and not the dealers and producers of the drugs, Kind of like prostitution, we focus on the johns and the prostitutes and not the pimps. That leads me to believe the justice system is corrupt.

Chasingtail,
Most users who are in jail are not in jail for using they are in jail for other crimes to support their habit. ie holding up a 17 yr old for money to buy drugs, b&e, shoplifting, grandtheft auto, dealing, drug running, etc. They usually get clean while they are in jail but once out they resort back to old behaviour patterns and go right back to the drugs.

throw the video games and the TV out the window go camping as a family, walk around the neighborhood with the dog, teach the kids to fish,or hunt, teach them bushcraft and they will have so many things they want to do that sitting at home playing halo( or smoking a joint and playing halo) just will not be an option

...yeah, decided to elaborate on this one. Just because my opinion is different than yours doesn't necessitate you lumping me in your little category of degenerates.
I'd rather see money spent getting the pimps and dealers off the streets. I'd rather see a meth lab busted than a grow show, I'd rather see a welfare bum scumbag loser get charged for posession of crack cocaine than a college charged with posession of marijuana. I'd rather a drunk driver get a DUI than someone get a photo radar ticket. I for one can't care about everything so I pick my battles. It all sucks, but some things suck more.

I am sorry, that was not called for, I over stepped again. Please accept my apology, I do not know you, know nothing about you.
I have lost a great deal in my life due to substance abuse, ( not by me doing it) and take it too personally.
Again, I am sorry to you, and any I have offended.

How often do people die from smoking pot that is laced? When I was younger and smoked if I ever got something that was laced I knew about it before hand as the dealers usually bragged about it.
