Before i put the money down on a kodiak island hunt i had a deposit for a hunt in russia for the brown bear, we ended up having to cancel and go to alaska becasue the flights out of anchorage were cancelled going into russia.

I talked to alot of people about the hunts over there and it is very sceptical, if i was going to go i wouldnt go with anyone but nick and pat fredrick with americana expiditions, they will personally escort you into the country and take care of you. And also i think its a good idea to have some cash stashed away because they can get pretty nasty at the airports also.

Thats about all i know about it sheep. not sure if they have the flights all organized yet or not.

I have not been on a hunting trip in Russia however I have been to Russia and will be going back it is a great contry. I would recomend if you go, to go with some one who knows russian and has been there before. There is always some one wanting to seperate you from your walet a pick pocket or police officer and a little wheel grease can go a long way.

Default Brown bear hunt and the Fredericks

I phoned the Fredericks for some information on brown bear hunting and they never got back to me at all ... On that sorry note I would be tempted to give a different booking agent a chance ..

I did some consulting work for a Russian Outfitter that offered brown bear hunts. We hunted them for a few days but our timing was a bit off with the salmon. It's an incredible country with great people.....just don't let them drive the jet boat! I never shot a bear but would go back in a heartbeat. My trip happened very fast and I didn't have time to get firearm permits so they gave me the game warden's AK......I remember his words to this day. "Gun holds 11 shells...you see bear...pull trigger 11 times" And for the record, you can fit 32 people in an MI8 helicopter. You just can't do a vertical take off or landing...lol...scary!

As has been recommended here, Americana would be a great place to start.

Everything was totally above board with customs and all officials that I dealt with but I've heard stories too. Likely not a bad idea to have a pocket full of American cash just in case.

You need to go with a pretty open mind and get used to waiting.

It will take more cash than I have to take this adventure. I see myself standing alone in the snow, pennyless in Russia, because some customs guy took all my cash.

You have to declare all your cash going into Russia...I think I only had a couple hundred bucks so they knew there was no sense trying to fleece me...lol

Let the poor Canadian go.....
