Trip done, and reason why numbers are down
My son got a nice buck, and I took a dry doe, but with 10 full days at the cabin and only 2 bucks and 6-7 doe seen over-all, numbers are way down.
Checked trail cams and also seen live, wolf pack and a cougar, and an interesting bear on cam 1.5 miles from camp.

Same dilemma in my neck of the woods. Interesting how that wolf reacted when it spotted the camera.

Good Videos. there are definitely way more predators the last number of years. It is sure knocking back the number of game animals. Headed up for 3 weeks. Will be interested to see what it is like for game numbers this year.

That bear apparently likes your camera.

Thinking the same way. Maybe alphas are off screen?

We need to start killing the predators off as much as possible when lawful.

Those predators will probably be eating lots deer, congratulations to your son on his buck. I know when the elk start hanging around our farm the wolf's aren't far behind.

Self Defeating Strategies
Both videos show predators on their way down an established trail. Trails heavily used usually go to a food source. A food source established to lure prey animals also lure in predators.
Acreages with ponds will have ducks and geese so land owners will decide to put out feed. The feed locations create defined trails that predators can identify making for easy ambushes. If the birds exited the pond at many different locations then their chance for survival are much greater.
Saskatchewan allows baiting for deer. The bait sights attract deer but the trails draw in a very large number of predators. When hunting season ends the deer will still come to the bait sight months after the feed has stopped. Often we would get more than 10 coyotes on pathways to each feed-site. On the trails the deer made we would put a log across high enough for the coyotes to go under but not the deer. Under the log we would put a snare.

Trail cam update,
The grizz has now showed up on the cam nearest to our cabin, 3 miles from the original video, he’s now out of the green zone and on to private land.
Seeking his own territory possibly?

How far west and or North are you? Only ask because it's interesting to see how far east grizz are moving.

Yup, more and more showing up on trail cameras throughout the Lesser Slave Lake and Little Smokey Drainage basins. Buddy has a big boar hanging around his place, 15 miles SW of High Prairie.

Two gbears were photographed in Rocky Mountain House last week, and they’ve also been seen in the Stauffer and Arbutus areas recently.
