Default Run from Prince Rupert to Skidegate

Next summer looking at making the run across from Prince Rupert to Skidegate. Through the narrows and fish Cartwright Sound and area.
Has anyone made that run?

Would only go across as a buddy boat or in a group run. Looking for any general knowledge.

Default yikes!

On a calm day, that is a seven hour run for the ferry. I remember the purser telling us that they were 4 hours out of Queen Charlotte City inbound to the mainland and they turned around due to the weather on one particular trip.

My guess is you'd need a sea-worthy vessel to cross.

Default Hecate Strait is devils playground

Crossed in a ferry under storm warning. I would never do that again. Rye coke fell off of table in bar. Generally shallow and makes for big waves. Pick your day very carefully.

I was on the water 112 days this past summer in that exact area... Is it “Doable”... answer is Yes with right weather, and a buddy boat is a great idea. In the right weather I have run 30-40 miles out into the Hecate with no problem... the weather there can change fast. Sometimes the water looks great, but when the tides change, and the water starts to Ebb or Flood against the wind, it can really push up big and fast... just don’t let your desire to Do It cloud your sense of judgement... Plenty of times I’ve had to abandon a spot I really wanted to fish because it wasn’t worth the risk...
