Default Boat motor

What's everyone's opinion on a 60 hp 4 stroke motor on a Princecraft 162 pro series? Will it be underpowered? Maximum recommended is 75 hp. Thanks for your help!

My opinion - whatever the max. HP rating is, that's what should be on the back of your boat.

There's nothing worse than an underpowered boat.

I have that motor on my 2005 Lund rebal 1650 DC.. It is a great motor that is so good on gas it's sick...I would like to have a little more power but for the money its a great motor.. top speed is about 60 kph and it gets out of the hole fast..Good luck..

Yup I think you will be fine with that motor Dexter.. One thing about going all out on H.P. is that it is the max rating and as such puts a lot of stress on the transom if you plan on keeping the boat for years you are better off keeping with the smaller engine..

At our altitude a motor doesn't make max power, NMMA allows some fudge factor as well. If it's just for fishing the 60 is fine.

Thumbs down

a 60 HP won't get the muskrat out of the water, but could blow all the ear hair out. Maybe you should waffle a bit longer.
