Default First Lakers and First ...

Last weekend I went out to Cold Lake for my first time in search for big lake trout. Started the weekend at my grandparents lake Thursday night (40 min from Cold) and woke up bright and early and headed to Cold Lake. I couldnt believe how many ice heaves were out there.. we just stayed on the ice roads and followed tree/log markers people had placed to get over the ice heaves. Tons and tons of trucks out there.. the fishing atmosphere was fantastic !

A buddy from work lent me his vexilar flasher (cant thank him enough) I cant imagine going there without it now. Anyways, after about 2 hours of seeing red lines on the flasher appear I finally hooked one and reeled it up from 90ft below, I laughed at how much my arm was starting to burn as the laker made it up to the hole. Yay my First Lake Trout! Not to long after that I hooked into a smaller one... and that was all for the day. The fish stopped biting my hook so I headed back into town and decided to challenge the days luck at the towns casino lol (cute little casino too).

Next morning went back out on Cold Lake and of all the fish to catch I managed to pull out my First Burbot! Boy was I ever excited haha. First time feeling the slimy fish and having it wrap its body around my arm *shiver*. This day I also saw a truck try and make it over one of the heaves and go nose first through the ice! Pretty scary stuff! He managed to get out safely and bunch of guys immediately went over to help him and pulled the truck out. Seemed to take only about 3 minutes from the time he went in to the time he was back driving. Good job guys! (be careful out there though :S)!

Next day, I went back to my grandparents lake to visit and borrow their ice shack for a perch fishing day. I ended up seeing my First "real life jumbo perch" and I now believe they do exist here in Alberta lol

Great weekend.. definately checked a bunch of things off my bucket list.

Looks like a great few days on the hardwater. Congrats on all the firsts. But, how did you do at the casino? Was your luck as good as it was on the lake?
