Interesting that the sh*t disturber in this thread was from SK. This is an Alberta forum...not that others aren't welcome, just not their trolling! I'm originally from SK so no prejudice.

And personally I absolutely appreciate the OP's post, just as a reminder to keep my eyes open while boating.

Default Car fishing at its best

Maybe he was just having a senior moment ,it happens
Someone will replace him

Travers is a bit of a dump ,I've picked up coolers , tackle box
Box of pampers ..
Best was coming from the spillway at 11 pm ....in the channel
Six people out in the middle on two air mattresses , drinking and doping
In the dark
I had full lights and a spot but it was the dope smell that made me slow down.
Here's a. Good one

I've been fishing Sabaskong Bay on Lake of the Woods every summer for the last several years. There are a couple of shallow rock reefs that are marked by propane tanks. Last year they had the highest water levels in 40 years. The propane tanks were chained to bottom, but the water was so high the tanks were suspended just below the surface. You could have easily have cruised over the rocks and still hit the tanks. Maybe someone had marked a shallow spot and used a rope that let go instead of a chain.

My son and I started ice fishing again last winter. We were shocked at the amount of garbage left on the ice.

Thanks for picking it up and leaving the lake safer for the rest of us.

Personally I think it more likely it was some guy going 50 MPH that had it flip out of his boat when he hit a wave or a wake and by the time he realized it was gone her could not find it

50 mph is awfully fast for a boat, very few fishing boats can come close to that. But it could happen I suppose.

Since propane bottles can be returned for exchange I find it unlikely that anyone would throw one away, unless they had stolen it and were afraid of getting caught.

Not many boats come equipped with propane appliances so I suspect it got dropped off a bridge or rolled into the water at a cottage or camp ground.

One other thing I wonder about. If it were empty it should float High and show up for a long ways so I'm thinking for it to be the hazard the OP thinks it is it must have been at least half full.
That would make it even less likely someone would toss it in a lake.
