These days it's upland birds, just to work with the dog. In days gone by it was elk because of the challenge and the great eating meat. My least favorite has always been moose, because they aren't as wary as most other game, and recovery was so much work.

I love archery spot and stalk Bull moose. Have yet to take one with my bow but there is just something about getting up close and personal with that big of an animal. I came very close last year to two bulls in early September. I stalked one from 400 yards to 34 yards down a cut line as he was zig zagging his way up eating. I got to half draw and he heard my arrow sliding on my rest. looked up at me and booked it.

The second one came into a wallow I was sitting on the edge of behind a bush. I had him at 10 yards. Same thing.....he heard me draw and took off. It was disappointing to lose 2 almost sure things but man was it exciting!

Wolves
I love hunting wolves. Its a thrill from start to finish. You just never know when they'll show up, where they'll show up from, how many are gonna show up, and how fast they're gonna show up. I love hearing respond to my voice howls. Unreal hunt.

my favorite is pronghorn hunting, but on the poll choices, it's hard to combine them with sheep and goat.

I'd have to say the wise ol' mature whitetail buck.

For me, a moose or an elk are great table fare, but trophy sized antlers do little for me, so when I'm hunting them I usually pick one good for the freezer. Mule deer where I hunt are fun with a bow but offer little challenge with a rifle.

Chasing after a mature whitetail buck is my favorite challenge, and I often go years without putting the crosshairs on one I feel is worthy. I think its been about 4 years since I've harvested a whitetail, with a couple elk and a couple moose for the freezer since then, and my oldest son now doing his part to get venison for the freezer, I don't feel the need to pull the trigger on a whitetail unless its a big ol' swayback.

Hard to put a finger on just one. Hard not to get jacked about spring bear. Archery moose ten mins from home is awesome. Elk on the mind all year. And chasing white tails in that beautiful rut week is a great challenge. Antelope in Wyoming was fabulous fun. Again tough to pin point it.

I spend most of the year hunting birds over my dogs, but my greatest hunting thrill continues to be calling-season elk. Nothing like getting right in their face when they are on the fight, and trying to pull them out into the open for a shot.
I feel as giddy today as I did thirty years ago when I stalked my first bugling bull. Knowing that there could be a grizz around every corner while I'm doing it, keeps me on my toes and feeling alive!!

Goose hunting is still my favorite. I enjoy the spotting and setup before the hunt as much as the actual hunt. Lots of fun and rewarding when it all comes together with finding the right spot, the right wind, the right set up, the calling, flagging. Almost 45 years hunting waterfowl and still look forward to opening morning, sun up, hearing the first honk, hit the flag and call, and their on the way in.........just doesn't get any better for me.
Potential to hunt and shoot for about two months around here which is nice. We make goose jerky, hamburger, meatballs, sausage, stir fry and a couple of other recipes as well.......I like the taste of waterfowl. Always hunt with a group so lots of laughs and some great camaraderie.

Love hunting Elk! Nothing funner than an heated up bruiser coming in screaming his head off. They'll come so damn close. We had one that wouldn't leave us alone after (5pt in 6pt season) and there were 4 of us on horses! He just kept screaming and screaming hahaha was awesome!

I can't believe no one has mentioned coyotes yet. Nothing gets my blood pumping like a pack of 3 coyotes running at me at less then 50 yards.

Gotta say - archery hunting elk during the rut. There's nothing like a big bull screaming bugles across a valley to get the heart pumping. Last year was my first REAL try at it, and I'm hooked!
I managed to arrow a 360 gross 7x7, so that likely has something to do with it!

I used to hunt everything I could. Then I cut back to moose and deer only. Loved chasing the mountain deers best. Always potted a grouse or two. Then I stopped for a dozen years. My dad who was a great friend and hunting partner got sick and couldn't come along anymore. I just couldn't go without him. Eventually he succumbed to the cancer. For 7 years I never thought about going out then I got myself a good Golden Retriever and she changed the game for me.

I'm looking forward to upland and pheasant again this fall. I can put my kill in my vest pocket don't need all the gear for chasing swamp donkeys either. Huntings easy peasy for me and a whole lot of fun again.

Bird game is where it's at for me!

Archery elk or rifle does not matter to me my first choice.
2nd is hunting rabbits, partridges, pheasants, ducks and geese with my German short haired pointer and side by side shot gun .
3rd moose
4th mule and whitetails

I like to hunt all the options all but a choice that would have fall day in the field with a dog walking for upland, shooting over a pond or in a goose field is tops for me. I love being out hunting over working dogs.
