^^Why is this so hard for people to grasp?^^

We are in possibly the worst position in Alberta's history with an NDP provincial, and liberal federal government. If we can make it through this, we can make it through anything!

I guess on a bright note, things can't get much worse! Thank goodness Trump won, could you imagine???

Min wage is $15 ish,15x8=$120
fill a tank on a pick-up $120
work 20 days a month=$2400

rent/mortgage $1200
power $120-$140
gas average $90
groceries $300+
prop taxes $250
clothes $200
car repairs $100 month
insurance house/car $500 a month
phones $100-$150
kids $500
etc etc

This is a recipe for disaster,if you don't make $50 an hr and work 6-7 days a week/70-80hrs you will not have great life.

Yes. It will be better. Albertans fired the previous government which was getting pretty lethargic. NDP came in unprepared. Now they played there card. Likely be replaced in 24 months. Albertans have killed their weeds, summerfallowed for a term. In 24 months we will plant a new crop. Last 20-30 years. All will be good.

My property taxes went up $300 and nothing has changed.Look into Panama and the incentives they offer for new comers. As far as safety in Mexico goes I have found it ok and I have been there 8 times.Try walking downtown Edm at 2am,you will change your mind.

Two friends of mine retired in Central America, one in Panama, and one in Mexico. Both said they would do exactly the same thing again. They rave about the healthcare system, and in Panama, almost everyone knows English. Of course there are parts of Mexico one wouldn't go to, but the same can be said for any city in Canada.

I've heard Guatemala, Ecuador and Uruguay are great places also.

So my son comes out of high school gets a job and is making $60000 per year. No post secondary.

Your son comes out of high school gets a $100000 loan to go to college for 4 years.

Whose gonna be farther ahead?

By my way of figuring my son will have $240000 under his belt while your son will be - $340000.

at 50 yrs old for minimum wage.

This is when you move to panama only I'd be taking my boy with me. Allamony that all the way to the bank!

I couldn't agree more with the OP our leaders are going about things the wrong way. If they could only do something with the day care system like crazy eyes wanted to the average family could afford to have more kids. This way you wouldn't be the only light skinned person in the crowd of 500

How you figure this? If he follows through with his goals I would expect him to be a land Baron.

I'm a ditch digger not quite 50. As far I'm concerned my quality of life is second to none. Haven't worked for minimum wage since I was 14.

No doubt about it, Alberta is one of the best places to live in the world. But, that doesn't mean we should settle for politicians picking our pockets or other improper treatment. I'm always dismayed when I hear people say don't complain because we got it pretty good. Sounds like a battered wife.

We need to hold our politicians to a much higher standard and we need to continually strive to educate ourselves and others about liberty and tyranny.

Great thread, and thanks for caring enough to try and make Alberta even better than it already is by pointing out it's shortcomings.

Albeeria has always been good to me and I suspect it will still be good once we get thru the rough patch. Sure would like it if we could be alberta without out leeches that are draining us.

Alberta has always been a great place to live and raise a family. Get some education, work hard ...and do unto others as you would have them do to you...and life will be good.

Didly doodly 😇

I think the government, both on a provincial and federal level have screwed things up so badly this current slump is just the tip of the ice berg. Federally Trudeau is piling up our debt with no end in sight plus supporting terrorism! Middle class and those wishing to join it he says...yeh those who join it should be looking for a cheap apartment if they plan on having any off spring, I suppose you could paint a picket fence on your balcony next to the nieghbors that require absolute silence during prayer time or you could be charged.

Provincially the NDP is the nuece that is clinching albertas future tighter than I'm sure anyone thought was possible. Alberta is the current best province to live in to me, however let's fast forward twenty years with this bunch in power. It will come to the point where the free outdoorsmen will be considered a thing of the past. Our whole eastern slope's and everything we as outdoorsmen love is in Jeopardy let alone business scattering in every which direction but here.

haha yes, sounds like a plan.I dropped out of school to help my father make ends meet so my sister could finish her schooling.I work with many guys with a good edjamacation and I make triple or more than them.I was fortunate enough to get my welding ticket,b-pressure and a rig.It has been far from easy but I knew as a kid I wasn't getting any hand outs and wasn't going to live like we did as kids.I sacrificed 12 yrs living out of a duffle bag in chitty motels in ever dump in every corner of AB.I am greatful for the work that AB has provided but I am not liking the direction we are headed.I'm lucky enough to be debt free from my sacrifices and have all the toys I wanted.Every time I turn around my bills are getting bigger just to live here.We own 2 other businesses, sell them and the plan is to get out of here for winters and come back to fish/camp and live the summers here. There's no way any of this could of happened if we had kids.My nephews and nieces are xbox technicians with zero life skills so they are going to struggle I'm afraid.
