Fishing line colors...

Just curious as to what everyone thinks about all the different fishing line colors. There seems to be a lot of ideas and theory's from the manufactures as them have seemed to pretty much covered the entire color spectrum.

In monos and flouros I've seen clear, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, and even line that is clear in the water and yellow or orange above water.
In braids I have seen green, camo, brown, and yellow.

the only time ive found a significant real application for a high vis line is when im pogy fishing walleye that are suspended below summer schools of whitefish....its a line watching game and my old eyes benifit from hi vis lines.

I mirror Chubb's thoughts.

The only benefit I have heard of is going to the Hi-Vis yellow, orange, red etc when you are watching for line movement in order to determine a strike and set the hook.

Other than that, I am a believer of a clear mono or fluoro leader behind a braid or superline depending on the application. Some guys don't think a leader is neccessary.

I have high-vis/low-vis (alternating every 2' or so between black and fluorescent yellow), black braid, a dark green braid, and a lighter green braid on my rods right now,

no science behind it, but my preference is the darker green, then lighter green. the black seem less visible in the water than either green (to me), but I don't seem to catch as many fish on it. Maybe has something do with what colors fish see and water depth etc... DUNNO.
Oh, and I hate the high-vis/low-vis, just annoys me.
Flouro - used berkely vanish last year, thought it was pretty cool how it was a bright gold above water, but invisible below water, until after a few experiences I found out i'd be better off just occasionally throwing my hooks into the lake and watching them sink/swim away. no need for the line....

i got red line on one reel and green flouro on the other both works great

I love the hi vis lines. My favorite was the berkley solar line. They don't make it anymore, at least I can't find any. I just try on 3' of clear fluorocarbon with a seaguar knot, add a tiny touch of krazy glue, and I'm all set to go.

trigger7mm, if you find any Solar better buy what you need. I do not see it listed in my 2011 Berkley Catologe & price pages.

I was fishing Carson 2 winters ago with 4 others.
Myself and 1 other had the blue mono on and we never saw a fish for about an hour while the others were pulling in fish all within 5 feet of us.
As soon as I changed both of the blue line out we were getting fish.
So I know that the color blue isn't liked by the fish in Carson

Im starting to wonder , I bought a spool of that Berkley solar stuff , and have had very few hook sets compared to when I use Clear 30 lb mono same diameter line diffrent color .

Ive got it spooled on one reel and that has effected nothing for casting but sitting when I use it on my set up for Sturgeon very little action . But then use my other rod I get bites left right and centre . Time to get a new spool of Maxima . Other stuff will be given away to some kid or use it for Pike and my Quick strike rigs .

When I experimented with yellow powerpro, I think the rate of bites went up with pike even though a steel leader was spooking them that day. I notice too that the rate of perch bites went down quite a bit when I started using the yellow braided line compared to dark green braided line.

I have some Spider Wire code red on a reel of mine, and it started off being red, but has since turned a pale pink color. I caught lots of fish on it though, don't know if the color helped any or not.
