Default Baptiste Walleye

Got skunked at Baptiste on the Holiday Monday for Walleye. Only caught two medium sized pike .... poor fishing for 6 hours I must say.

Talked to another boat that fished Sunday and they only manage a few medium pike as well.

Something isn't right. Visibility was poor (normal), but not much "green" in the lake. I'm kinda stumped. Worst fishing I've ever had there.

Hopefully the fishing picks up, I got lots'a tags to fill.

fished two lakes northwest of edmonton and have the same to report...walleye were spread very thin....more pike action than anything.

nothing like the past few years thats for sure.

not sure what is going on. burned a ton of fuel and covered a lot of area trying everything in my arsenal. Did OK and better than those i talked to at the launch but still not feeling good about it.

noticed the surface temp of the water was 5+ degrees warmer than this time last year already, on both lakes.

The ice came off baptiste a week ago so the lake is still churning. Thats why the vis is poor. It does that at ice on as well. Give it 2 weeks. I had no issue's this weekend. Planner boards cutting through 7' with husky jerks real slow, slip bobbers and back trolled phelps floaters @ .3 mph caught for me all weekend . They're still in spawn mode so they're very shallow and easily spooked. You gotta know where they hang this early and you NEED leeches!

That's what I figured ... but ran out of time.

No fricken leeches available in Edmonton.

Walleye are still in spawn mode from what I have been told. Very unmotivated to feed.

Was there last thursday and it was slowwww lake still hasent turned, but to confirm the spawn theory, I saw a big hen swim right by the boat (in 4' of water) surrounded by 5-8 smaller males going nuts. They were oblivious to me, if I wanted to I could have scooped them all up in the net.
