What do you have for a hunting sight and why?
I am on the search for a new sight for my APA M7.
I love shooting my bow I don't get out hunting as much as I would like but that is what my bow is for. I would like to shoot some 3D this year but just have my bow set up for hunting.
Anyways, I just sold my 7 pin Spott Hogg, too cluttered for my liking.
Been thinking about a single pin but not sure if I want to make the jump away from fixed pins. So might just go with a 4 or 5 pin sight and do something rather than every 10 yards for sighting as the pins almost end up on top of each other.
I have also thought about a hybrid style sight like the G5 Optix??
Hoping to spend less than $200, so what are you running and why do you like it what do you think I should try next??

Im running an HHA.. but going back to a fixed pin for 3D hence my sale ad in the buy sell.
As for hunting with it... i just would leave it on 33 yards.. and it was in the kill zone from 17-40 yards on moose. Just hold a little high or low for deer sized targets. Great sight.. quality construction.

I am also very tempted to go pick up a G5 XR 3+1. My buddy has been running 1 for 2 years now and loves it. He has a 70 lb APA and 31" draw and he can out to 90+ yards with the floating pin. Just need to find it on sale; WSS has them for 169 plus tax in black.

I have five pin Montana Black Gold Ascent sights on both my bows. MBG and HHA both use the brightest fibers And MBG uses a photochromatic housing that tints in the brighter light to prevent the pins from glaring or having a starburst.
The Ascent sight is a hybrid sight and you can use the bottom pin as a floating pin sight. I have my sights setup 20,30,40,50&60 and my bottom pin can be dialed up to 25 yards and out to 110 yards.
If you are thinking about 3d a single pin sight will move you into open class where a fixed pin sight with have you in bowhunter release.

You sold the sight I would have kept for hunting.
Going from a Spot Hogg to a G5 is going backwards in my opinion. Hoggs are built bulletproof, and the wire on it helps with accuracy and is great when pin gapping shots. If you want an affordable adjustable sight, a 1-5 pin Tommy or Hogg has a new model out this year called the Fast Eddie, looks like a good sight, and if it's built like a Hogg it'll be a winner.
I've tried other sights, HHA, Axcel, CBE, but I always go back to Spot Hogg. The only thing I don't like about the Hoggs is the weight, but it seems all high quality sights come with a bit of weight.

Custom 5 pin spot Hogg on one bow, .019 pins for 10&20, .010 pins 30-50, same reason, dislike of clutter.
Axion glx on the other , all 5 pins .020, but wider gaps due to heavier/slower arrows.
If I upgrade, it would be the spot Hogg fast Eddie. Adjustable sight with a single pin that has two aiming points.

To the OP as nice as it is to have different pin sizes (both of my ascents were the same 20 & 30 0.19 and 40, 50, 60 were 0.10) for 3d all pins must be the same size FYI

Op, I'm not sure if you know this or not, but it's real easy to turn your 7-pin Hogg into a 6,5,4,3,2,or 1 pin sight. I've even changed the fiber optics in the pins with no problems. If you have the wraps you can eliminate pins and order longer fiber optics to increase brightness.

I have used fixed 5 pin 0.019 Trophy Ridge sights for a long time....recently I have made the switch to spot hogg and I plan on hunting with a Tommy Hogg with 5 pin wrapped housing this year...all green pins 0.029,0.019,0.019,0.010,0.010 pin sizes.

I love my Montana Black Gold sight 5 pin Ascent. Mine as all green pins except for the middle one is red. I just use the middle one has my floating pin because it is centre in the housing. Will dial from 20 yrd to 100 yrd.
I only do one or two 3D shoot a year, I just enter in the non-competitive side and just have fun. I am not good enough to win anything anyway. We just compete between friends and I just agree not to move the site during the round. It is above your budget but just look around and you might be able to find one second hand just like me for a great deal. Thanks ABB

I am currently running a CBE tech hybrid 3 pin. Always stayed away from single pin sights but was always a fan of centering the housing for every shot so went with a hybrid.
Put my floating pin (bottom pin 40 yards) in the center of the housing and stacked the other 2 on tpp for 30 and 20. Now for anything over 40 the housing is centered in my peep for every shot.
Havent gone much past 50 yards yet with it but getting new arrows soon so havent gone to in depth.

I currently shoot with a one pin Adjustable Ascent Black Gold sight, because at my age two many pins get rather blurry! I really like it and will never go back to the multiple pin system.

Just switched over to a Montana Black Gold Adjustable Ascent Black Gold sight on a 4" dovetail mount.
R:0.019" -30 yards
Y:0.019" -40 yards
G:0.010"- 50 yards - floater to be dialed when required
So far I am loving the versatility!

I am using th G5 optic and really like it. I find the 4 pin set up isn't to congested and if need be you can dial that bottem pin in for longer ranges. I would have no hesitation in buying another one. Spot Hogg has a great reputation but as far as I know they don't make a site with three fixed pins and one floater.

Thanks everyone for your input.
I ended up going for the G5. Im looking forward to putting it on my bow and getting started with it. Hope to get it outside and reach out for some longer shots.
If it is not what I a looking for it will be up for sale before too long and I will be looking in to a Black Gold sight next.
I'll post a review up once I give it a once over.

I used the G5 optix last year and liked it, having both the fixed pin and the floating pin was nice, I'm using a HHA Kingpin now, which I really like, easy to sight in, and has lots of good features

I have an HHA and am ok with it so far. I am not sure about adjusting in hunting settings yet. I bought a lens and a light for it so I am in too deep to think about changing for a while.

I'm an IQ Retina fan but I have only had a few bows an sights. I really like the IQ system and surprised that it is not more popular. it can of makes me worried about what I am missing.
