I would say the world shoulda quit about 2 yrs before Al Gore invented the internet. The beginning of the end .

Kids have to be on their toes because of proximity and you can act like a real idiot in the middle with all that space. Problem is the buggers all pull out the cell phones to film you when you try and make them laugh.

The best time is now because we are in it. Enjoy the things we like and try to change the things we don't. Utopia would be boring if not impossible as we as a species always seek change and improvement.

Best comment of the thread.
Like most, here I whine too much...when I actually stop and think about I have a dam fine life...and if all of us dedicated about 5% of our lives to making others lives better...the whole planet would be in pretty good shape.

Default Great question

My mother used to listen devoutly to radio evangelists and they were always interpreting the Bible to describe present day politics (1950's) to predict the second coming, it was always just around the corner. As the faith healers died off and the day of judgement came and went, she changed her belief that it wouldn't come in her time but in mine. I'm 72 so it better happen soon.

One of the features of doomsday predictions, is that they are based on the belief that this generation (the one making the prediction) is SO important that it for sure must come in their life time.

As I near the end I see the world we live in as more of a life boat we are all in and we are trying to talk so of our shipmates out of drilling holes in the bottom of the boat.

We only get one earth and we should take much better care of her.

I only wish that I shared your optimism, but more and more laws are being created to divide our people based on race or religion, rather than to make us all equal and to unite us with common goals. The only possible outcome that I see resulting from this divide and conquer nonsense , is civil unrest, and then civil war. As such, I see things getting much worse, before they get better.

So, I'm looking for others opinions on what the 'best' era/decade was. Especially from the older/wiser crowds perspective.

Never, your lot will always be determined by your values.

The hard part is being on the same page.

Cell phones were a huge issue at work, so I can imagine that it's even worse in school, if the students are allowed to use them in class.

Certain people felt that it was acceptable to play games, or text, or surf the web on their phones, for hours every day, when they were supposed to be working. New hires, summer students, and apprentices were warned, but some of them ignored the warnings, and in some cases, it cost them a permanent position.

August 1975. I'm just a little biased on this one. I spent the month with buddies hanging out in California. What an eye opener for a Canuck teenager.

I won't lie but some back to back days seem a little foggy
