Default Wandering Caribou

So my friend send me this pic today. One of his relatives has a farm about 1 mile from Grimshaw, and he has some buffalos.

So not long ago, he saw this caribou cow with his buffalos. Apparently, there is a small herd of them in the Dixonville area North of there, and this cow somehow ended up at this farmers place. Buffalos didn't seem to mind. I guess there is a mature bull in there, and he didn't care either.

I am told that F&W were contacted by the landowner. The cow was tranquilized, and transported to the area where the other ones are hanging around.

Not sure why this one strayed all the way near Grimshaw. Interesting.

Thought I'd share...

Very cool!

Looks small. Maybe a young calf that lost its mother?
Mind you, it is in with a bunch of massive buffs lol.

Have seen them just north of dixonville. Seen a single out in breaking point east of manning.
No doubt from the small dixonville herd. Cool.

I know of a dozen that have left the crown land (primrose air weapons range I think) and are in some o the Lakeland farming areas now. Not sure if was because of last year’s fires or ever expanding wolf population.

60 miles to my place. Never heard of caribou here but a old timer remembers red deer. Said you just walk up to it and shoot it. Maybe explains their demise.

There are 2 pockets of caribou in that area. I have pictures back 35 years of them.

Default Caribou

We see them along HWY 881 between LacLaBiche and Ft. Mac.

Come to think of it we had to get the cats out of wabasca by a certain date for caribou migration. Not that far as the crow flies.

Probably got run by wolves and made it. Found a very safe herd to hang out in.
