Go 25 yards out in front of the boat launch at the Jubilee park on the east end, north shore of the lake and it is about 17 to 20 feet deep. If you go further west from the boat launch, a little closer to shore it is alot shallower, 6 to 8 ft.

Alot of people might be amazed but there are a few perch to be caught there too. Biggest I ever caught was about 11 inches. Biggest pike 12.5 lbs. A friend caught a 21 lb. pike there a few years ago. A few lingcod too.

Be careful at wizard. The ice can vary alot compared to other lakes close by. If pigeon is 10 inches thick then Wizard might only be 6 inches.

X2, lot's of springs that make the ice thin in spots too.

can we keep the lingcod since it's not specified on the regulation?

I would think that the provincial possession limits for ling would apply.
I have caught a few lingcod thru the years there but never really targeted them.
Might be a few to be caught. Maybe not.

Just thought I would share this info. Interesting.

Wizard Lake contains Northern Pike, White Sucker, Yellow Perch, and Spottail Shiner (Mitchell and Prepas, 1990), as well as Burbot (WLWLSA, pers. comm.). Many of these species have been confirmed by other sources (V. Buchwald, pers. comm.), but no detailed population studies are available. Walleye were also stocked in Wizard Lake in 1949 – 1951, and 1953 (V. Buchwald, pers. comm.), and reportedly again in 1980 (WLWLSA, pers. comm.) but to date there have been no reports of this species being caught there. Alberta Sustainable Resource Development does not currently maintain a stocking program for Wizard Lake (ASRD 2006-2009). Wizard Lake is a popular local sportfishery, and angling pressure has become an issue to fisheries in water bodies across the province. Increases in angling pressure are likely as population densities and recreational usage of the lake continue to grow.
Critical spawning habitat is known to exist at each end of the main body of Wizard Lake, in the shallowwater habitat at the narrowing between the smaller west and larger east basin, and just upstream of the weir at the outlet (V. Buchwald, as cited in Leduc County and Wetaskiwin County, 1998). The weir located at the outlet on Conjuring Creek may present an impediment to fish migrations into and out of the lake; however, the weir incorporates a fish ladder and the license of operation specifies that the control gate must be monitored and operated to allow the movement of Northern Pike during the annual spring spawning period (Alberta Environmental Protection, 1996). Northern Pike spawning habitat has also been noted at the inlet creek approximately ¼ mile to the west of Wizard Heights (WLWLSA, pers. comm.), though it is not known whether this area constitutes an important spawning habitat for Northern Pike populations in the system.

You will catch 50 undersize before you get one keeper but catch it in the right place right time and you can have nonstop action....

A co-worker, who fishes Wizard regularly, has caught Burbs in there. Not sure if there are many, but they are in there.

Was out on Wizard today. Caught ~ 8 smaller pike. We were in the boat launch area at Jubilee park. Overall nice day. Went for perch but couldn't find any so we settled for pike.

Highlight of the day was some joker out on the 10 inches of ice in his Hummer...tearing across that lake, going at least 100km/h at times.

Honestly thought we were going to see him go through the ice. He should probably go buy some lottery tickets because today was his lucky day. Lucky he didn't come near us because my ice scoop has a tendency to grow wings and fly into stupid people.

I wonder if you had a video and a call into f@w if they have ability to charge someone for doing such a stupid thing endangering others in so many different ways. That's scary stuff! Was he upset with life trying to commit suicide or was he just not at all educated or informed of how the ice is not quite ready for stunts like that?

My guess is the latter. He was showing off, stopping by different groups of people - talking to them and then taking off again. Then he ripped off the lake on what looked like a offroad trail before he came back a few minutes later.

Definitely a few cards short of a deck...
