Default Anybody hunt Maui Hawaii

Hey guys,
The family and I are going to Maui Hawaii end of March. Wondering if anyone has ever hunted there? I’m thinking axis deer may be too expensive, but would love to get out for some turkey hunting! Any advice would be appreciated.

Some of the feral goats and pig hunts might be cheap. A 2 of each per day limit year round. You can use handguns for the pigs too.
A fellow I know went hunting the goats there and he enjoyed it. The goats have some pretty nice headgear too. Lots of climbing on rocky slopes.

As far as hunting birds on public or private lands when you are going in March it looks like you can only hunt spotted doves.

Lopakas Hunts

Hogs are $500. 8 hour hunt

I will be in Maui for a few weeks when you are

Looks like they use dogs, the dogs hold the pig and you have a knife.........

I’m not sure on that one actually

As only seeing the goats from a distance and not hunting them- as this was my observation, go on the desert side and whack one on the head. Lots to choose from.

I have seen lots of chickens and rusters everywhere! Running around the parking lots. But nobody hunts them apparently.

Maybe Highlander should try some slingshots and snaring instead.

He should! The cost of restaurant food in Maui is high and the quality of food is crap! The best meal you can have there is equal to the typical bar fare here like Cactus club, milestone etc.

Maui has Goats, Pigs and Axis deer. I used Maui Hunting Safaris for a goat hunt, it was pretty fun, the ranches they have access to are not the hardest walk from what I saw of them. The goat hunts also include management animals, I shot my trophy billy, a non trophy billy and an axis doe.

that was my hunt

For tukey hunting you have to go to the big island. The hunting regs on state land are fairly complex compared to Alberta, with most areas only open on the weekends depending and can be closed on days that bird hunting is allowed.

Also, get your exemption number right away or you will have to do a Hawaii hunter Ed course. You will need to send a copy of your hunter safety course, not your WIN card to the DNLR. Mine only took a couple days to get back, but it can take a few weeks.

Private land or state land requires a hunting license which is $105. Bird permit is extra

Just get your letter of exemption from the Maui state and go out by yourself with your bow. I have a few friends that have and I will be doing it next time I'm there. Maui state even has the zones and limits posted to there Google Earth so you can easily figure out where you are and what is allowed.

I looked into this exact same thing a few months ago. All of the information is available from a few different sites from the gov of maui. It is a little complex and you need to ensure you have things correct before heading out. A self guided DIY hunt is definitely doable. I did not go hunting as I decided it was too much to try with young children.
