Moving to bc. Steps to take for hunting
I'm getting close to pulling the pin and moving to BC. One of the main reasons is the hunting. Just wondering if anyone has done this in the past. I'm looking into what steps need to be done. I read somewhere u need to be there 6 months before hunting. If I move this fall I want to get everything done ASAP to be able to go spring bear hunting and hopefully put in draws. I just read that the Win card doesn't count as proof of a hunter ed. Program. I did one 20 some yrs ago but have no proof of it other than I can buy a hunting licence.

Did already but like on here they sometimes don't jump to help people with low post counts. There regs are worse to read then ours so the more info I get the better.

You will need proof of successful CORE Completion , Alberta course is recognized in BC for acquiring a Resident Hunter Number( Number is for Life)
Yes you need 6 out of previous 12 months BC residency,
unless you are full time CAF, then it is only 30 days BC residency,
The BC CORE CERTIFICATION relatively easy, hardest part is firearms safety and waterfowl identification, if you are proficient at these 2,, your are ok

Actually BC Big Game Resident Licences and Species Tags are some of the best deals in North America,
How about a GOS Bighorn or Stone Sheep hunt for $60, or LEH Grizzly for $80

6 months proven residency (easiest way to do this is change your DL right away), proof hunting eligibility in AB, and they will give you a resident #.
Then GTG!

How do you figure you didn't get much help from the hunting BC site? I wouldn't call 2 pages of replies as being not much help.

Where abouts are you heading? I moved from BC about 20 years ago, we have a cabin on Horsefly Lake in the Cariboo and have spent some time in that area.
Elkdump summed it up pretty well

Beautiful area, a friend of mine retired there a couple years ago and I have a number of friends there.
From what I understand the upland bird hunting in that area is fantastic, big-game hunting is good but you have to spend a fair bit of time in the field getting to know the areas and the game patterns. Apparently there are a fair bit of elk in the hills but again you have to put in the time to find them.
The other thing is that the area attracts a lot of people from the lower mainland so come nice weather and hunting season in general the area gets flooded, the upside is that living there you have far more flexibility in when you go out.
Good luck with your move, I hope everything works out for you,

We moved to the central Kootenays eight years ago and getting your BC Hunter's number is as easy as it gets. Show them proof of your Alberta Hunters Training Certificate, live here six months and you're all set. Hunting here is challenging, at least where we are, in that it is all mountain hunting with very limited farmland opportunities. Everything is either up or down with varying degrees of steep. Personally I love the high country and really enjoy the backcountry hunting I find right at my doorstep. Within an hours drive and a couple hours hike with my backpack I can be in some of the most gorgeous alpine I've ever come across. As for BC meaning bring cash it's what is, an old joke, cost of living is not exactly cheap in AB either and where we moved outside of fuel and taxes things are pretty similar. Climate, lifestyle, and outdoors are incomparable in my point of view. Best of luck in your move. One thing you will find cheaper is hunting fees, for whatever reason fishing is more here while hunting fees are less.
