Default muskrat funnel traps

Hey guys has any one ever built funnle type musk rat traps with 1/4" wire mesh for a funnel instead of using tin? If so how does the mesh work?

Used 1/2 or maybe even 3/4 many years ago and they worked really well. Only problem I remember was mink can get in and chew a big hole through to the liver of everything in the funnel trap and then found a way to get out.
funnels are very efficient for muskrats so efficient it is easy to over trap small water bodies like sloughs.

The mesh funnel trap is great , just make sure the trap is submerged so they drown or else they tend to eat each other if still alive .1/2 or 3/4 " will both work .

How about the funnel part being mesh instead of tin?

Default mine were fully mesh

so don't see a problem. used cage clips (like a metal hog ring) and they were fast and easy to build. had a plan for making them in an old Alberta trapper course booklet from the 80's I think is where I got the original plans

Default let me know if you need cage clips

Think I stil have a box or two of them over in the barn. If you can use them they are yours for the postage to ship.

Try using clear plexi glass for the stops. Never had a problem with them in runs or baited with carrot or parsip, rats go right in. I had some with the two wire fingers that I watched a big rat get out of. Starting using the plexi glass and the mink stay in as well.

Hope this is helpful.
