Default Fly patterns.

Hey guys. Going to jasper on sunday. New to fly fishing. Going to fish the snaring. Start at the athabasca and work my way up stream. Wondering if anyone could give me pointers on what kind of flies I should be throwing out there. Like I said, green as a cucumber so no idea where to start. Appreciate it.

what species would you like to target?

If you are going for rainbows, grayling, RMWF etc. I would start with a small mayfly pattern such as a hare's ear or something along those lines or some type of worm. You can also flip rocks to see what kind of bugs are active. I have only fished this river for bulls so I am not too sure about what smaller flies work this time of year there.
When I fish the atha for bulls i prefer big white streamers as deep as you can get them. There are also some big pike in the atha that may take a streamer as well. Hope this helps to small extent!

Don't have a particular species in mine. Rainbow or bulls I suppose. I picked up some streamers today at a local shop and see how it goes. Thanks for the reply!
