Best fly boxes?
I am looking at some new fly boxes for this year and notice everything is slit foam now. I have had the slit foam boxes and am not the biggest fan of them. I could always fit more in my normal boxes vs slit foam
What are you using and what are your favorites?

I picked up a couple of the new Redington boxes and they are well constructed and user friendly. http://www.redington.com/fly-fishing...edium-fly-box/
I would love to have some of the wooden ones I see on fly fishing forums but they are too pricey for me.

I like compartment fly boxes. they don't quash dry flies and keep em from blowing away. These are higher quality ones but even the plastic ones with a single lid for crafts from Micheals work great

for streamers I just use a $4 lure box. The clear plastic compartment kind. I really want a sushi roll for my bigger streamers though

For me it depends on the flies i want to carry or the use of the fly box.
My day box i use a SA nymph box. This has a mix of everything. Dries, nymphs and atreamers. It even has a compartment for split shot.
For dry flies i use cheap plastic compartment type boxes. I find the compartment type help protect the delicate dry flies better.
Eventually i would like to get a midge box with a magnetic side.
The tacky fly boxes might be something of interest to you or the boxes with the little wedges.

My favorite on the river one is an old small Whitley box with magnetic strips, it's perfect for keeping dries fluffy, and great for changing flies quickly. I need to put the flies back in their respective boxes in the evening though.

Can you still buy these? That looks like a great little box. I hate the foam ones so much! Any idea where I could get something like that?
edit: or did you make that on your own? Looks easy enough to DIY.

I don't think they still make them, couldn't find it on their website. I picked mine up over the years second hand in the UK. My first one got a few bumps when i forgot it on the roof of the car, still worked fine.
I made similar style boxes for some fly sets i was making (see the image attached), but the magnets weren't super strong. It holds fine and was good for the presentation, but the flies tend to move a bit on a day long outing.

I use Springbrook boxes for my dries. They are half ripple foam and half compartment style. Pretty sure you can get them foam on both sides , or compartments on both sides. They come in several sizes.
My streamers are in a all foam Flambeau box with magnetic closures , works ok although I had to reglue the magnets.
You could also buy some ripple foam and make your own boxes.

Copenhagen tin for my Nymphs, KFC Coleslaw container for dryflies, Safeway Roast chicken box for big articulated streamers and pike flys. Keeps everything sorted and ready to go. The fish care not what my flybox looks like.
