I had a 71 Pinto back in 1977. I bought a 68 Mercury Montego without telling my parents...overheated on the way home, transmission suspect. Parents made me trade it in on the Pinto.pinto.jpg

I watch the Weird history channel on occasion so it just popped up in my feed and I thought of you .

Sherman tanks have killed far more people than pinto and gmc tanks put together, I imagine. 😁

Then again, there were likely dozens of GM pickups for every Pinto. And at least the pickups could haul and tow. A good friend had a Pinto, but he didn't keep it very long. It was yellow, so everyone called it the lemon.

My most vivid memory of driving in a Pinto was smuggling two kegs of beer during a beer strike from Medicine hat to a party on a ranch in West block Sask. we were hero's.

Pintos were actually very stylish...compared to the AMC Pacer or AMC Fishbowl. Ironic that both were designed when LSD was popular.

I didn't wear a pocket protector so never owned either.

Honda - we shall build a car that is reliable and fuel efficient using superior engineering techniques and a high priority put on quality control at all aspects of development

Ford - I want a 2000 dollar car under 2000 pounds ready in a couple years. Come to me when it’s done.

The scary part is that the Pinto actually sold very well until people finally figured it out. That being said it was not worth it. The Pinto became a laughing stock. Imports continued to develop and refine their cars into the golden ages for the Japanese imports.

There was a 1979 Pinto station wagon that got sold in the Olds auction 2 weeks ago for just 2250.00 , it had only 129000 km on it.

I bet he sunk that much or more into it.

Not really a “Pinto” anymore though is it ? Maybe a Pinto 2.0

ROFL at the rear bumper on that thing!

If you're that afraid of getting rear ended (and you should be in a Pinto) get another car. lol

Ohhhh- Jungleboy kicked the door open, dumped gas on sticks of dynamite, then ripped the pin with his teeth and threw the grenade!

But didn't run away!!!

I never had a pinto, but I remember a guy leaving my house mad as hell one time, drove all the way from Meadow Lake to Lloydminster with his ass on fire because I was selling a running bobcat for $750.00. Asked me 4x if it really ran.

I reassured him, get in turn the key and go, it runs great!

Showed up with cash, drove right past it with his trailer looking for the skidsteer.

That's not the way to win the submarine races.

Sad story. Could be that everyone waiting passed away without closure. 45 years is a long time. At least the mother did, as mentioned in the article:

adding Clinkscales' mother passed away earlier this year still hoping her son would come home.
