Default portable fish finders - which one to buy

Hello all, I am going into the interior of BC to go trout fishing this summer and was wondering who makes a good portable finder so that I can attach the transducer to my 12' boat easlily? Any advice on this issue would be awesome!!

Thanks
Goose

i have a hummingbird, can't remember the model #, but it has a color screen, tracks your waypoints and everything, it came with the nice suction cup for mounting on the transom of the boat and a 12v battery for a decent price at Canadian tire.

Hummingbird Piranahmax series, showing the 325

and of course their very portable Fishing Buddy series. Showing the 110. The nice thing about the Fishing Buddy system is there is no drilling, no wiring, and no transducer to mount.

You can get anyone you want then mount it to somenthing like

TITE LOK http://www.titelok.com/product-p/trd-5d798.htm available through the Fish'n hole

or

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Porta...t&WTz_l=Header

I have one of each. If getting the Tite Lok I would go with the High speed one if you would like to get depth readings on plane.

I bought the Cabelas/Sully portable transducer and LCR mount this winter. Havent tried it on the boat yet and it doesn't have great instructions to go with it(figured it out by looking at the cabelas picture though). The price was right though($45.xx US). Should work good on my cartopper.

I agree the instructions on the Cabelas’ one is poor but you can figure it out. You may also want to take a bit of sand paper to the edges before assembly and field use as, at least in mine, the edges were sharp.
I don't believe the Cabelas is recommended for use on plane either but is cheaper than the tite lok system.

What about something like this that will work for you year round?

http://www.lowrance.com/en-US/Produc...ine-en-us.aspx

You would need to buy the suction cup mount transducer to go with it as well, but it would make for a pretty good package.

Made my own. Had an older eagle from an old boat. Pulled the wiring and mount. Got a cheap battery box with a small 12v battery, attached the mount to the top, tranducer mounted to a suction cup on the transom of the aluminum boat....voila.... instant portable fish finder.
When you pack up, eveything fits inside the battery box.
