Default Scat identity

Scat identity. Couldnt find any tracks near by or fur. Looks like elk to me but ive been told elk are rare in this area.

Super helpful. I am sure he never considered that. If an animal was standing over his scat it would help determine who left it also.

Nope as in original post no tracks or fur left near by. Ive never seen deer poop clumped like this. Thats why i assumed maybe elk.

The lush moist green veg makes ungulates crap like that. Its seasonal. It could be deer , elk or moose as there is no real reference to the size. Probably not moose cause of the size oposed to the danilion.
Elk are expanding their range all the time. Look for tracks in the mud and roads of the area, if its a fair size and toes are not too pointy than you have elk in the area. Tracks dont lie.

I saw some fresh poop like that a month ago and thought it was elk. then a cow and calf moose ran out in front of me. Lucky the dog never saw them and got himself into trouble one way or another

I have a picture of cow and calf moose running on my trail camera in this area
