Ya, I thought I had missed my chance to challenge, then saw that July 1st is the end date. Reading my manual (2014) and regs front to back again and going to test in the next week or two.
More worried that I'm trying to ingraine the wrong info for the test.
-first half of the book I.e: the terminology and generic fur prep
- generic management considerations
-the safety portions (I'm sure there will be quite a bit of this)
- the regs from ....the regs
Questions: is there a lot of species specific questions?
-trap name specific questions?
- species specific management considerations?
- much on the business end of rfma's?
I am studying, just looking for hints on what to expect, so don't get upset please.

Experience?
No, sir. I hope that's not something to hold against me though. I don't come from a trapper family, don't have friends that do. And I Would be interested in taking the course, when time and cash allow and I know that it's somthing I would like to really invest in.
Just wanted to take the test to begin dabbling, building a little repoi ur and experience.

Yes to all but not a lot about RFMA's. Know your traps and critters.

Here is some advice
Know what the critters and their tracks look like
Know the mating, birthing cycles what they eat etc
Know what traps and tools for trapping look like, their names and what is used for what animal and what is not allowed for certain animals
All the steps for proper fur handling including how the furs are prepared for auction
General safety when out in the bush
What a resident can trap,, what a registered trapline can trap

Excellent, thank you guys. Some of the info I was looking for.
I know I need to concentrate a bit on the specific names of some traps and exactly which species cased in or out.
Thanks again

I received the manual from Jeremy, studied, then passed the test first crack......will be going out with an old trapper friend to learn some of the ropes.
cam, if u still need a copy of the old manual, let me know, as I'd be glad to return Jeremy's favour and pass it on.
btw, the test did not ask any questions that could not be answered out of the old manual. swimming upstream here, but it doesn't seem to me that you need the trapper's course to pass the test (though for those of you so quick to criticize, I wholeheartedly agree that the course would provide other detail not to be gained from the manual)

Trappers course
I'm in the Spruce Grove area. Does anybody know where to get info on course dates and locations within an hour of Spruce Grove?
Can this be found in the trapping regs?

I PM'd you with a bit of info and a link to the ATA.
Once you pass the course (or before you take it) you are welcomed to drop by in Morinville to check out my set up and equipment.
