Wow...I killed the bandwidth on a new Photobucket account?!

Anybody have any thoughts where else I can host all these pics?

Silverdoctor just sent me a text and was kind enough to share some of his sweet sweet bandwidth with me

I'll re-upload and re-post as soon as I'm at home and have a spare hour or two

Sorry guys, here's some of the pics, but I'm waaaaaaaaaay too lazy to type out everything that goes with them again!

Getting ready to take off at the beginning of the trip.

I got to ride up front with the pilot on the way up to the cabin.

Landing.

The weather on our first day of fishing was just awful.

We started off chasing pike in some very cool leafy weed beds...nothing like the aquatic vegitation we have around here.

Then Terry wanted to go try scratching lake trout of the 'to catch' list...done!

I got lucky and got the first couple lakers, then Terry hooked into his first ever laker! Just as I slapped the motor into neutral and shut it off I got a hit as well...awwww yeah, lake trout double header!!!

The Bar

Om nom lake trout!

Some random shenanigans.

Day 2. Terry and I stayed up all night drinking around the fire. Once it was light enough out and Mel was up, we took one of the boats and nailed a laker before breakfast

After breakfast we went on a short quad ride to two little lakes that are joined together by a bit of a canal. That day all we caught were little pike, but the next day Terry and Daryl got the walleye going in there as well.

This was my day in the boat with Doug.

Mike and Gary hard at work.

These things were EVERYwhere!

Day 3. Hanging out with Daryl.

We started out on the main lake fishing for pike, which was all good. However when we came in for lunch, we saw that Terry and Mike had gotten into the walleye on the lake from the day before, so we packed up our gear and hit that lake for the afternoon and got a few more walleye of our own.

Break time!

Mel putting on a bit of a walleye cleaning clinic.

Cocktails around the fire

And post-cocktail Daryl!

Day 4. Long quad ride into a more remote lake. But first, breakfast!

The only guy I know who in a place like this, would rather sit in the kitchen playing games on his iPhone than get out and enjoy it!

The ride out.

My leviathan of the deep!

Daryl's big one

My first walleye of that day. Check out the oddly orange belly on it. The water was very tea colored, and the other walley from that lake had the same orange coloration, but there was no noticeable color difference in the pike.

While we were out fishing in the boats, Mel hung back and did some wading and casting from shore...while he was out wading a big black wolf crossed the beach behind him. Wish I would have been around to see it.

Since we were pretty far away from camp we just did some good ol' hot dogs for lunch.

Then back to the feesh!

Mike's biggun!

Quad ride back at the end of the day.

Back at camp.

Again, look at the crazy colored belly on the walleye.

And look at the size of the fillet off that big pike! Not a typical keeper for us by any means, but she didn't survive the battle, so it was either us or the birds.

So naturally, anything that starts with this much butter has to be good!

And it sooooooo was!

Now for some reason Mel has a real hate-on for squirrels around the cabin, so Daryl, the great white hunter helped him out with a little extermination work.

So the next day again, started with just terrible weather

Still we made the best of it and Mike and I braved the high seas! We started off with a couple pike to warm ourselves up, then Mike wanted to scratch lakers off the list, so we headed for deeper water, dropped our gear down, and went for a troll. It didn't take long before we were into them again.

Mike and his first ever lake trout!

And Mike taking a hard earned break

Okay, there's still more, but I have to take off and go meet up with YeeHaw to hit up Wab for the afternoon. I'll post the rest again tonight.

Had to dig this one out of the archives... this weekend we leave for our 3rd annual Vermilion Lake trip!!

It really sucks Jay won't be coming with us this year, but sometimes things come up and plans change. I know he will back next year in full Jay fashion. I just hope I can do the play by play as well as him.

Next year I'm putting together 2 trips, one in early June (best fishing) and 1 end of August (nicest weather)

The lodge only holds 6 and with such a demand of buddies wanting to go, oh well I guess I'll just have to take one for the team and organize 2 trips and spend 2 weeks up in northern sask on a pristine lake where the only presence of other people is the odd airliners flying over @ 30,000 feet.

I still don't remember stopping in ashmont on the way home?

Wow, what trip. Great story and pics. Bet you'll be spoiled against alberta lakes for awhile.
I noticed a rifle in the quad. Did you see a lot of big game out there (moose, deer, bears) and were bears a problem at all given the amount of "fish guts" scent in the air?

Last year we were lucky... didn't see any bears. However the year previous we had a few scary run ins with some large black bears, one of them after several warning shots we had to "take care of".
