Default Chilly day on the river

Hit the SSR today and got to meet the man behind the photos, BobLoblaw. He takes pictures better than he fishes I am afraid to say.

Started out cold but not windy so it was quite bearable. We ended up with 3 sturgeon in the boat, a nice sauger, sucker or two and had a great time. The first fish of the day was awesome, gave me a long very tough fight, my arm is sore right now. My personal best 52 inches, not bad I think for a first season fishing for them. I was lucky since it got hooked on the bottom, but it eventually got itself untangled and Dago managed to get it into the boat for a couple pictures. Most amazing strength I have ever felt in a fish, it had my 9 foot rod bent double and it took line any time it wanted, even with the drag on hard. Gotta Love It!

and my personal best fish so far.

I havent caught enough of them to get repeats but they seem to run in very similar size classes I caught 2 of them both 46 and a half inches, at least a days swim apart. Im learning these fish from the riverbottom up so I dont know much yet. But I am a hardened addict now so I will learn a lot more.

Yaa old BobLoblaw had a tough day on the river. He's a die hard to drive 6 hours to try and catch 1 maybe next sping. The first person Wayne called was his buddy he handed his rod to last trip. Just had to tell him he beat that fish by 1 inch. Looks good on you Wayne. We're still looking for that 60" plus maybe next time.

Wicked fish Wayne!!

I'd love to get down to the SSR some time and get into that kind of action. I needs me a jetboat!

Wicked to see you guys are still getting them...I haven't seen any on shore in this area for quite a while now

That fresh tag looks like it's a bit infected with some scar tissue.

Is this how it looked in real life?

Nice Fish and gorgeous water,,, I'm thinking about the 16' jonboat in one of your pics and that pic just sold me. My Dad is camping in his van tonight without heat but he did phone to say the bite is off at the other spot way upstream and he has found a rock to heat up in the fire for the cold night ahead. I doubt he'll get a sturge but ya never know, I set him up with a rod on the off chance.

Did you boys meet my fishin partner bob out there? He was in a tinner at the forks today. Are you sure that was a guide in the army green jon boat and not just a few buddies out fishin?

We were down by Med Hat. You will have to make it out one of these days Nate. That is the guide from Seven Persons we see him down there all the time. We're heading to the forks this morning I'll have a look for bob.

Y'know how people say,"I just enjoy being out there..." after being skunked?
Sometimes I say it, but don't really mean it. Well, this time I mean it, for sure.
I did get to feel a sturgeon on the end of the line; thanks to Mr. Christie for handing off his second hook-up to me. All I can say is, if that's how a small one pulls, I can't wait to hook a biggun! Sure was great to see that hawg that Wayne landed; what a beautiful beast!
Much thanks to Dago for the invite; can't wait to do this again- gotta break in that new Okuma reel!
Such a beautiful setting to chase those dinosaurs in; it was like going back in time- very fitting.
It was awesome sharing the boat with ya, fellas.
'Til next time!

BTW, I'd like to share a few pics, but I'm having computer issues right now; hopefully will have it sorted out by tomorrow...

If they are fishing not to far west of Med Hat, that looks exactally like the boat the guide i went with had. What a super trip, cant wait to get a boat for the river and try it myself. Learned alot that trip. Hooked on Sturgen now! Very nice Pic's Wayne, looked like an awesome day!

Buy an apple???
I already ate one today, thanks.
That may help keep the doctor away, but it ain't gonna help me post pics!!!
It's past my bedtime, so I ain't gonna comment much...

It was a beautiful morning...

It was great to see the first sturgeon of the day...

Mr. Christie & friend...

Dago stopped playing with the suckers & sauger long enough to catch this sturgeon...

Then, these black clouds rolled in...

Dago & Wayne waiting for the next bite...

I love how the leaves turn color this time of year...

(more to come...)

Parting shots...

Heading home...

The sun sets after a great day on the water; it was an absolute blast!
Couldn't ask for better fishing buddies.

'Til next time!

Great pictures and fish guys...awesome! I've never caught a sturgen. Do you think one would take a buck tail on a fly rod Steve? LOL, you might have had better luck...Kidding!!!
It's always nice to just go for a boat ride
Bring your fly rod back to the Bow and catch a big brown, you'll feel better.
