Red Deer River

What is your favorite spot on the red deer. Some of mine are wah-soo-wuh-hum, That fort by the QE2 bridge, Mackenzie trails, Jofree bridge, and dry island buffalo jump park

I also caught a fish by big valley that looked like a pike, but had black spots on it's dorsal fin and all over it's body instead of white. Any guesses of what kind of fish this might be

the whole river is jam packed with fish so it realy dont matter to me where i go even though i prefer the city section. nothing like watching a big brown rise for BWO.

And its a great river! cause you can easly tell if the rise was a brown or a goldeye.!!!

I caught a Broonie once by the dam... And it was so silver you would have thought it was a small salmon. Lol

Caught this Brown yesterday below the dam. My first one on the Red Deer River. Actually my first one ever so I was pumped!

I had just been catching a ton of goldeye and a few walleye all year along the river but my goal was to hook a brown on my spinning gear this year. I'm glad I finally did it as I think the cold weather will soon be upon us.

I caught this walleye in the Red Deer River, this past Saturday in Drumheller. It weighed in at 8.8lbs.

What a pig! Almost looks like a replica already.

I've only fished just below the Tolman Bridge, and the river as FH7 says, is jammed full of fish.

I love bait fishin.

Compared to the bow river,parrie creek,stauffer. and for the size of the river, it has a low population of brown trout. Although it makes up for it in the sizes of the browns.

ok so if i went and fished stauffer and you fished the RDR more then 1km below the spillway we would end up with the same amount of browns? i dont think so...I know theres some info on this i just got to find it

See that's what walleyes always looked like years ago,,, that's a gorgeous specimen.

As for the OP, my favorite spot is just upstream from the Morin Bridge.

Only in the early 1990's did brown trout start to show up in the system after nearly 2000 were stocked.

about 50 trout per kilometer

I think that the Red Deer River has improved by 100% sinse the Dams were built, Gleniffer and Diefenbaker. Now if we can just keep the river clean.

Well, I just fished the RDR at Rosedale for an hour.

There are Walleye in there.

That is all I can say about that.

I've never really tried fishing for browns in the red deer, but I now a lot of people who have. Mostly just below the dam or by penhold

Havent spent too much time on the Red Deer for Browns, but it is excellent for Bulls in the uper reaches. I prefer the NSR for Browns especially in early spring.
