Default Canmore fishing?

Quick little thread. Going to Canmore for a couple days later this week and will try to get a few hours fly fishing in, either right in town or very very near. I know the Bow and Policeman's Creek are both open. Any other creeks or water bodies around, and suggestions on where exactly to toss a line? I know Canmore vaguely but not the local water.

Thanks.

I can't remember the name of it, but that grayling pond at the dog park was good when I was there in spring two years ago. A lot of them were spawning which was cool to watch as well. I caught them all on chironomids.

yes, right from the horses mouth! It was indeed Quarry Lake. Also, make sure you are using really fine tipit - they seemed to be incredibly line shy. It took me about an hour to figure out how to catch them, but once I had on really light tipit and the right chironimid, it was game on.

From other people's reports, Grotto is now ice free, and I suspect most of Gap is as well. Grotto is fun, but Gap has been a pain for me. Really windy, usually. In the canoe, I keep seeing huge fish (I know I've seen big browns and whities, and I SUSPECT that I saw a huge brookie). I would guess sinking lines and streamers, but then again, what do I know.... I've never caught one!

Canmore Creek opened on the 1st, and it (as well as its tributaries) holds a good number of small brookies. I don't know if it's got much flow at this time, though. 3 weight or less. Sounds like you're after bigger fish, though.

Happy fishing.

I fished Quarry last May long, the river was slow, and half the ice was off. Spawning takes place shortly after and lasts for a day of so, lots of action seeing the fish spawn, yes small chron's work. but it they are spawning try this.............
get a small 16-20 size " glow bug" in orange or pink, about 4-8 inches above the fly put a small drop shot, use fly line dressing to make the glow bug float. put that near the rutting fish and watch out!! really fun to watch.
