Default Pigeon, blizzard and no bonanza

Headed to Pigeon today to brave the winds and hope for good fishing. I was rewarded. Walleye, after walleye, after walleye, repeat, walleye, walleye, ....

Set up in 9 FOW and it turned out to be the ticket. After landing 3 really nice walleye, A huge, frickin huge white comes in and I swear it had the hook... I pull it up and watch as it bounces over the mouth, head and down the back. Easily a 8 lb white. Just a huge thing. Didn't come back either....
Shortly after a huge beak comes into view and it is a nice pike. I had a good long like 5 minute look at this thing and it was 4-5 inches at the back. Probably 12-14 lbs. I hooked and release another walleye which went straight down under the hole. I'm thinking I'm going to see a kill. The pike comes in and watches the walleye recover. When the walleye finally sees the pike it takes off at high speed. I drop my hook down where the walleye was and the pike lowers to the bottom. I slowly jig....barely...waiting.....waiting...waiting...sl ight move....wait....After 5 minutes of this I get bored and jib the hook towards the pike. It touches the lip, then the over the eyes, head and down the back....no reaction. I was surprised.

After that I landed another 10-12 walleye....all nice. Good ole big pike would came back on the releases but not near the hook. Didn't see another white. Headed out to 25 FOW and fished for a few hours to absolutely nothing. No marks, no whites. Just howling blizzard outside. Packed up and noon.

Interesting day. Nice start anyways.

Atleast the walleye are biting! Have you ever tried cicadas for whites in deep water ?

Yes, about 2 years ago saw 4-5 very small like 5 inch perch in 11 FOW. That was the last time I saw any. I call that pretty much nonexistent.

For sure. I was out today in the blizzard for about an hour. Had a huge white go right at the hook but I jigged it away ...thought I had her for sure...damn! Came back several times but just no luck. Whites are picking up there for sure. Looking forwards to landing a pig.

Probably cuz it's sorta central and guys may not want to drive super far in the cold temps. Just a thought.
