Default heck of a week (with pics)

Well, this past week was a memorable one for myself. started off with watching the labour day classic blowout at mcmahon. After spending too much $$ at BPS I headed down to med hat for the archery opener. cypress hills elk was our main target but it didn't pan out so well. We managed to see lots of elk, but they didn't cooperate to well. Thursday evening the wind was wrong for our evening elk spot so we elected to try for mulies. When we arrived at our planned location, some others were just coming out. Oh well, that's how it goes sometimes. We decided on a nearby spot that holds whiteys. After choosing a spot where 2 draws come together with several trails I hunkered down beside a fence. After 2 minutes a doe came out at 80 yards. She just stayed put looking in all directions and limiting my ability to swat the swarm of mosquitos that covered me. After 20 minutes of this she decided to commit and continued past me at 50 yards. at the same time I heard a branch crack to my left and behind some brush. a minute later a 130 class 4x4 stepped out at 30 yards. he slowly worked past me tempting me with every step. I decided to pass and I couldn't believe my luck. just then another buck stepped out. Instant vibrations rattled through my limbs. I calmed my breathing and repeated "30 yard pin" over and over in my head. When he reached my prefered shooting spot my arrow was on its way. watching that lumenock fly straight and disappear in his chest was way to cool. A perfect heart shot had the buck on the ground in less than 20 yards. He is my first white tail with a bow. A wall mount will be in order Lets see some guesses on the gross and net scores.

130-135, but I could be out to lunch.... Nice job either way, and if its a trophy to you, who really cares what he scores. Definately a nice one!

Congrats way to go. It does pay off to hold out. I'm going to say that buck may go 167-5/8's but what ever the score you can't get em like that at home.

That is a nice buck! However good he looks, he is only an eight pointer, and may not score as high as his majesty deserves. Still an impressive animal. He is definitely mountable!

Thanks for the congrats guys. Good guesses on the scores. His total gross was 152 1/8. His net typical is 145 4/8. I am more than happy with him for sure. Its tough to find a 4X4 of his calibre. He should look good with that summer coat.

Thats one heck of a nice clean looking Deer.

To be honest this one doesn't even deserve a tape its a trophy because of the hunt and to be takin with a bow is an accomplishment. As well it is a very nice deer for the territory it was taken in, not may bigger than that running around these southern parts.

Well done and enjoy the trophy for years to come.

Default salt

Great! Welldone on a good bow buck.

One question - is that an unsalted cape in a plastic bag???

Real quick way to get hairslip, especially in warmer weather.

Salt - lots of it and ASAP. Caping the head ASAP is also best, as you no doubt know.

We never salt the capes right away. The deer was shot the night before the pics. We skinned it right away and put it in the cooler. 1/2 hour after this pic the head was skinned and cape frozen. No worries on hair slippage.
