Pike Fly Swap
So this is the first time hosting a fly swap for me, so bear with me in this learning curve.
Because these are bigger flies and may weight more and take up more room, I am doing away with a self address stamped envelop, I will take care of the packaging (bubble wrapped envelop) and we can do a email money transfer for the postage, maybe able to include tracking # if people are interested (assuming that they are mailed as a parcel). Just include your forum name, personal name, and shipping address when you send your flies.
We can limit the swap to a minimum of 8 to a maximum of 20 people.
The Dead line for enrolling in the swap is Feb 1 2014, and April 1, 2014 for your flies with the flies being distributed within a few days of postage payment.
If you sent flies within the last week of the deadline please include a tracking # so I know they are on the way and will not get missed.
Sorry if it is all to formal but I want it to go smoothly.

I do not tie flies, but I would be happy to swap beer for pike flies. I am just throwing it out there...

So what are you ( or where ) trying to do?
Is this so anglers can share different patterns?
Never done one but am interested.
Have tied pike flies for a long time & am always interested in what other guys take on what a pike fly should be.
If it gets going I've got a few to add to the mix.

If you guys are interested in swaps and cant get anything going here head over to http://www.flytyingforum.com/ There is a section called "Fly Swaps & Contests" which has very regular spawps. Ive participated in several and they are very well done. Im actually currently participating in a musky swap there. Check it out if your interested.

I have tied my own trout flies for several years but have never tried tying a pike fly or even fly fished for them, something I want to correct next spring.
id like to participate but need to research a good fly to submit. Please put me down as a participant but " fly to be determined".

I've been looking at patterns for this swap. Is there any benefits/negatives to a tandem single hook set up for pike? I've seen a couple longer flies on-line tied this way.

Steve W I think that the tandem hooks only advantage is if it is used as a articulation point in the fly other then that I have found one hook is lots and easier to remove, I have found that stinger hooks often wind up in eyes, gills and nets. Some of the longest single hook flies (10 inch) that I use are very successful with only a few misses in a day on the water. An add note I don't see much of a cost difference in using hook shanks vs the second hook.

Thanks. Single hook it is. I tie articulated steelhead flies on a short shank and they hook up well with the single hook.
