Spinners For Whitefish?
I am heading to policemans flats within the next week and a half. I only spin cast fish. What would you recommend for spinners or lures for whitefish? I also know how to fish with flies on a spinning rod so if there are any flies that are really good let me know, I would prefer to fish with spinners though.
Thanks

If you really want to catch whitefish, you should use flies. However, my neighbour who floats the Bow several times a year does catch the odd big white on a spinner. Panther Martin, Mepps, Blue fox. If you want to drift a fly for RMW, use a San Juan Worm on the bottom, then about 10 inches above it tie on a prince nymph. You'll catch those whites, as well as trout. Use some slit shot to make sure you're on the bottom, and don't allow any drag. You're line must have slack in it.

x2 You will get more trout on spinners than whites. But in my opinion thats even better. However, Coulee's advice on flys is perfect for whites.

Absolutely. It's fishing with flies behind a bobber vs flyfishing with an indicator or not. Same thing just judge the length of your leader behind the bobber based on how deep the water is so you get down to the bottom.

i had alot of trouble getting whites on the bow for the longest time. (im not a fly fisherman, yet) i got really frustrated after a while and made this thread last summer:
http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showt...whitefish+myth
everything you need to know should be in there some where. alot of different methods to use there. I slay whites now. the key us if you use the method on the bow is finding the right weight for the speed/depth of the river you are fishing. youjust want your weight ticking over the rocks. if you have questions you can message me
