The fastest ice auger from factory?
So a couple yrs ago I was up at LLB and about 100yrds from me was another guy who I followed onto the ice and his auger would drill holes 3-1 to my old model 30 jiffy. So I'm just curious which factory built auger (8-10") is the fastest?

The new Jiffy I believe is the fastest, but far from the most reliable.
Husqvarna, Stihl, strikemaster and Eskimo are all slower, but more torque and reliable.

I haven't timed it but my 8" strikemaster lazermag can cut through some serious ice. Faster than most people's I have come up against and buttery smooth too.

Fastest doesnt matter if you cant place your holes.

Fastest i've seen is the 71cc Eskimo Viper. Not sure how reliable the unit is, but it does blast through the ice. Puts my Jiffy to shame. But my Jiffy starts every time and cuts holes every time.

My Jiffy stealth STX 3500 is faster than my brothers 71cc Eskimo viper, not by much, they were purchased the same year and my pull cord is already broke on mine so speed means nothing if it's broke down, I also run a hotter spark plug than the factory one

The electric "Ice Gator" is th fastest auger on ice that I have ever seen. When paired with a Nils Master 8" auger bit the thing cuts like no tomorrow. Super quick! Check out the web or YouTube and be amazed!

Anyone that thinks the eskimo is a fast auger has never lined up against a Lazer mag strikemaster. I own both and there is no comparison. None. The strikemaster is king as far as store bought augers go. Reliability is what I would be more worried about.

Fasted auger I have ever seen is the Nils USA 8 Inch with a 35cc power head. I drilled against one on slave a couple years ago and it out drilled my 8 inch eskimo with 43cc by 3 to one.
here is a video of the 10 inch.

I can't see the benefit of winning a few seconds while drilling the hole, especially if it depends on weight and high cost of the auger. I have Rapala Nitro 43 CC, it drills quite quickly and more important it is pretty reliable, didn't let me down once in 3 years with 1000 holes drilled to date. Plus the price is good, got mine for 300 bucks on sale at CT

Not that this is an accurate comparison, but last weekend we had my Strikemaster racing against a buddy's Enduro Viper 51cc.
My auger is pretty old, it's the 49cc Tecumseh, but it has the Lazer Pro flight on it - the dual lazer blades vs. the original chipper it would have come with. I put brand new blades on it this year and I was blown away by how fast it cuts. My buddy's auger was a 10" vs. my 8" and he had 3 year old blades, but mine was out drilling his by a good 4 to 1.
Not speed related, but I also couldn't believe how much harder his auger was to hang on to. After 5 holes, my arms were exhausted from just holding on. With mine, I barely need to hold the handles, it just bites and goes. I'm guessing this all comes down to sharp blades.

It's the same difference between a pinto and a camero. They will both get you where your going but one is awesome and the other ones a pinto.

My Z71 10" cuts crazy fast! Last weekend we had 3 augers out. My dads jiffy 8" and my brothers 8" Eskimo piranha and my 10" z71 would go 2 holes to my dads jiffy and 2.5 to the older Eskimo. All augers have new blades this year. The jiffy was the first hole on the blades.

Units with chipper blades seem to torque a lot more than the laser blades do. I have the same 49 cc Tecumseh Strikemaster with the chipper and it torques pretty good.

I own the z71 eskimo and the strikemaster lithium Lazer. My strikemaster is considerably faster but the thing that sealed the deal for me was the weight. My z71 is 34lbs. My strikemaster is 24lbs. Even the strikemaster 2 stroke beat my z71 when I faced off against a buddy last year.

I'm still using mine with the Nils after many years and it's really fast but the real beauty is I can walk up anywhere and press a button to start drilling, even inside a tent. No pulling on a starter, dealing with fumes or fuel. Only problem is that the high torque and how well the Nils bites into the ice, that it gets tiring hanging on to the thing after a bunch of holes.

Owned a Z71 ..... it's heavy, powerful and fast enough to pull you down the hole.
I didn't like the Torque as it will throw your back out so fast you won't know what hit you. The thing is like a Volkswagen engine mounted on pogo stick.
Drill a few holes and get thrown around like your riding a mechanical bull ..... end up wearing your jacket backwards with the zipper in the back before your done.
Fast as @#$% ......... but totally unnecessary really. I run the Eskimo propane now (with the same 10" flight) and its a few seconds slower but alot lighter, cleaner with no gas and oil to mix, spill or stink.
I will take the lighter auger that will still cut a clean hole through 20" of ice in like 30 seconds.
I maybe lost 10 seconds, but kept my jacket on straight.
