Default New rules for DRONE enthusiasts. A step in the right direction.

The rules no longer reference animals, buildings built up areas, roads. It is a start, these new rules allow recreational flyers to fly higher end units such as the DJI Mavic due to it's ready to fly weight of 734g, but all the phantoms and inspires are over 1kg and therefore have to remain 75m away.

Rules for recreational drones
If you fly your drone for fun and it weighs more than 250 g and up to 35 kg, you do not need special permission from Transport Canada to fly.

The list below is an overview of the new rules for recreational drone users. Consult the Interim Order Respecting the Use of Model Aircraft for the full list of provisions. You are exempt from these rules if you operate your recreational drone at a Model Aeronautics Association of Canada (MAAC) sanctioned field or event.

Following the basic safety rules below will help keep people, aircraft and property safe. If you fly where you are not allowed or choose not to follow the rules below, you could face fines of up to $3,000.

Fly your drone:

below 90 m above the ground
at least 30 m away from vehicles, vessels, and the public (if your drone weighs more than 250 g up to 1 kg)
at least 75 m away from vehicles, vessels, and the public (if your drone weighs more than 1 kg up to 35 kg)
at least 5.5 km away from aerodromes (any airport, seaplane base, or areas where aircraft take-off and land)
at least 1.8 km away from heliports or aerodromes used by helicopters only
outside of controlled or restricted airspace
at least 9 km away from a natural hazard or disaster area
away from areas where operation could interfere with police or first responders

during the day and not in clouds
within your sight at all times
within 500 m of yourself or closer
only if clearly marked with your name, address, and telephone number

This would apply to any private landing strip as well.

As long as they are registered with Transport Canada and show up on their posted airspace, yes. An unregistered or unused grass strip like the one between Veg and Edm might not be on there and therefore would not qualify.

Still an absolute crock of bovine excrement. In vast areas of Canada there is zero danger from flying drones, but control over the peons is required so lots of new rules. Like all good "liberals" they can't wait to remove liberty. Scumbags every one of them.

Yeah - but rules are made for people with no common sense. I'm certain most recreational drone guys would not be purposely trying to screw up airport/flight paths or trying to endanger the public. Unfortunately, there are morons. So we have to post the rules so we can spank those morons for their lack of common sense.

It could have been a lot worse IMO

So you are justifying the arbitrary law making to control the morons, while disregarding the freedoms of the reasonable? You sound like a Liberal policy maker.

As is proven over and over morons don't follow the rules. So we make more rules for the morons which still accomplish nothing. It's a never ending spiraling descent into madness.

Beat the morons with a club leave normal people the @$&& alone.

We dont live in a "do what you want world", never have, never will.

While I believe no one from AO would ever do anything wrong..... ya right.

New toys or tech will require new laws to operate. Nothing unusual about it.

Those that dont want more laws when those laws are clearly needed can always move to some other country. lol
