Pheasant Opener
Pheasant opening day in the south!! I won't be participating this year (bad cold). Good luck to all and remember a little respect goes a long way. Looking forward to the season.

I won’t be going this year. The last few years were the worst I’ve ever seen. I’d be curious to know how the bird numbers are though, particularly around Brooks and Patricia area.

My friends in the Brooks area are already done for the day, but they have tremendous dogs that are well trained. Sounds like there is a few around in the area they said. Hope that helps!!

Looks like the pup pulled a muscle training a couple weeks or go. Giving him another 2 weeks "rest" and will get back out there. Cant wait.

We hunted wilds around Patricia today, a couple guys got their limit a couple didn’t shoot, not a great year but could be worse.

Longpump
Hunted the "Longpump" property this afternoon by the Brooks airport. Seemed like just casual travel of fellow hunters, and by the time I got back to the truck around 3:00, the parking lot was empty.
Wind was howling pretty good, and wasn't sure how the dog would be with scent in the high winds, but still managed to get my limit easy on the west side.

We hunted wild birds only today. Population is coming back well!
Nice to meet old landowner friends and visit.
Great people out in the prairies.
We should have had 4. Lost one we doubled on.... how it was able to outrun my lab I’ll never know.
No wind. Sun all day.
Great time with my son.
We bagged that bird 10 feet from that rock.
It’s the rock that has my first dog’s, Bessie, Ashes under it.
I was silent and smiling for a long time taking it all in man.

Struggled on wilds today. Lots of hens. Ended the day at a release site near brooks. The wagons were just circling the quarter as I pushed through with the pup.

OK Colony
I've hunted the OK Colony for a few years. They used to have a kiosk at the main entrance with self registration. They have changed their access requirements, the kiosk has been removed and replaced with a CLAS sign. For those that do not know, Canadian Land Access Systems (CLAS) requires membership and a fee to use their services (website availability/booking calendar). So I am providing this as a PSA to those who want to hunt this colony.........you need to me a CLAS member and book your date online. Since neither of us are members, we went to another location and bagged a couple roosters. No dogs.......just a couple of guys who enjoy long walks in the S coulees.

Im joining you in not hunting birds this year ..i hear some places are still good , great to hear ...but my area is basically bare of wild birds. The ones that are here have been released and its just not the same as wild ones, so for the first time in my 45 years of hunting i wont be taking a rooster ..those of you in good aread remember to leave a few for seed..good hunting and stay safe

Reading this thread is getting me very excited. I've wanted to hunt pheasant since I was young, and I decided that I'd get into it next season.

That’s very honourable, we took 2 wild roosters opening day and left 4. Saw 10 hens on one property which was amazing. We are lucky that our area is looking good but down south of Lethbridge in the McGrath area very few wild one where traditionally we would always see some.

Good to hear you were seeing birds south of Lethbridge, all the private land I have permission from took a hit this spring but hopefully without any pressure they can get back to a solid population soon.

Took 2 wild roosters today w my brother from sask, left a couple squeakers. It’s been a sad last 5 years or so. Nice to see a few but will probably only shoot a half dozen or so this year. Not many wild birds and the old lab is 13plus. They need the big cover spots and those are getting less every year. Love wild roosters, hope they can make a comeback

Yes
Stay away from Magrath.
There’s no birds there...... it’s best that everyone stay away.
Just porcupines.
Stay away ok?
