Dickson Dam has a provincial recreation area beside it with access to the lower part of the dam/red deer river. Heavily fished, but if you walk the river a ways down its not bad.

There are definitely brown trout between the section from Dickson to Red Deer city. They are few and far between, but if you catch one, they are almost always absolute beauties.

About 3 or 4 times now. The latest was last year. Drifted from the dam to Hiway 54 bridge. Takes about 8 hours if I recall. Last year, two of us caught a few browns, a few whites and a bunch of goldeye.
