Good question. I'll pop by tomorrow and let you know if anyone is out there or has drilled holes. I won't be doing any ice fishing till hunting season is over.

A question for anyone that's ice fished Hermatage pond before, is it worth trying in the winter? I've heard it winter kills and never thought to try it. Any info on past experiences would be greatly appreciated.

I recall from threads on this site in previous years that it seems to hold fish until about New Year's, then it totally winterkills.

What ever trout remain will survive into the winter, i went out early January a couple winters ago and seen a few on camera. Did not catch any but they were still cruising around.

People catch trout through the ice there regularly till about end of December, then it just seems to die.

You guys got my curiosity arroused so I went by Herm pond this afternoon, hopeing to show my grandson a fish. There is not a single set of footprints going out onto the pond, and grandma wouldn't let me and grandson go out on the ice to play. I guess no-one wants to chance the ice right now, and I'm to busy till next Tuesday to drill the first hole.

Two guys I know were out on Sunday. They had drilled and the ice was approx. 4"

Checked the thickness at their holes myself.

I told the boy we would wait a bit longer.

Ditto. Not a single footprint other than a couple of deer tracks today.
