Sunday. 8 to 10 inches clear ice - could actually see the fish swimming below the ice after we'd put them back in the water. about 5 inches of snow. no trucks, one side-by-side, 3 local's shacks, couple pop-ups. fishing moderate.

Not that you can fish there at this time of year, but Lake Minnewanka had absolutely no ice this past weekend (Dec. 19/15) when we went for a walk there. I guess deep water takes longer to freeze up.

About a foot of ice, wouldn't suggest driving on it as pressure ridge closer to the middle! Caught 3 pike 1 walleye and missed 5-6 bad timing! Great day sunshining and a happy kid!!!!

Fished left (south) side of Driftwood access in 4' - 25'FOW (up to 100 yards out) on Sunday, ice structure was clear, solid and ranges 8" - 10". Surface was slightly blanketed, with up to a foot of packed snow. Could see several groups fishing much further out towards the middle of the lake. Dog sled teams were also out in full force. Fishing was slow for our group but not everyone got skunked.

Truck went through the ice at Stoney Lake near Elk Point yesterday. Reports of people in one ton trucks racing up and down the lake for the last couple of days prior.

Default Newell ice

Well there was black ice at the campground end it ranged from 12" on the shore side of the pressure crack and only 6" on the other, use caution! I walked on but as I was leaving saw someone pulling a hut out there with small white truck, hope we don't hear of someone going through!

South buck had 7-8inches on the north end where we were on Sunday. Flood water was spotty but noticable by the darker snow.

There's a pressure crack already at Kinbrook? Is it about 100 yards west of the boat launch?

I heard its in about 30 feet of water, about 12 to 13 inches where she went down. They have to wait for a t least 2 feet of ice before getting it out.

How is the thickness of ice around jousard (lesser slave lake) coming along so far?

One ok pike and a couple perch

Some guys are driving on but not venturing too far

Thanks for the info - we are likely to head out there on boxing day.

I agree - 10" is ok for a sled or quad but not nearly enough for a truck. I will wait until we get 18" of consistently thick and clear ice.

We will haul the gear out on quads ...... a little more work ...... but much safer.

Hopefully the fish will cooperate.

6in a week ago, and it hasn't been close to above 0 since. Should be a little thicker by now.

Was out today at Mcgregor's north end (rock pile) and the ice was a good 8". Water was fairly clear but fishing was extremely slow. Light snow cover throughout the area. The ice thickness seemed to vary a fair bit towards the south end.

Gull Lake ....... 11"-12" of clear ice (Aspen beach and Brownlows area). Fishing was average to good.

I was surprised to see only 20 or so group throughout the entire south end.

We were also surprised to see a few trucks driving around the lake - it was definitely noisy as they passed us along what will soon become Brownlows drive. At the end of the day a guy was pulling a big trailer/shack out with his truck .....

There was one particular Dodge Ram driver who decided it was safe to drive 50km/hr on 11"-12" of ice. We could feel the "wave" 40 yards away as he passed and the water pumped up the holes as he passed.

We were less brave ...... we used a tracked side by side - had to make 2 trips for gear - but whatever ...... no point in risking our lives ....... I would suggest to all people that this just isn't enough ice yet. Maybe another week of cold weather.

10.5"-13" at CVR between 8 holes a km apart, north end. Drove my 3/4 ton on it no problem.
