Default Ruger mini 14 target .223

I was thinking about buying this gun, basically just for playing around at the range, wondering if anyone has any experience with it. Is it accurate? What kind of distance are you shooting with it?

I have one and a friend of mine has one aswell. We have had great results with accuracy. The gun has no problem shooting under an inch @ 100 yrds with factory ammo and neither one of us have touched the dampener. I have the laminate stock and he has the houge stock. He was talking about selling his as he feels its too heavy for hunting. I on the other hand don't mind the weight and it fits me very well. I think that it is a very good 300 yrd gun. He is asking a very reasonable price. PM if you want more info.

Good Luck!

I have the Hogue Overmolded stock Target model and it is dumping 20rd magazines (all of them !!!) into 1/2" !!!
I originally had a VX-II 6-18 Target model on it for testing , but have since changed it over to a VX-II 3-9 X 50 LR for Yotes !!!

I didn't know that clips over 5 rounds were permitted.

If you look at the target he provided it is a 30 round group so your first instincts were correct....... he is a math major.

ooops... didn't look at the target. Looks like only 27 holes in the target. I looked at one on Saturday. Darn fugly rifle, but iffn it shoots like that, might have to go look at it agin. It's startin to look purdy.

get the bull barrell if you buy a mini. i had a mini thirty ranch rifle and it had a very thin barrell. the gun was designed for throwing around the pick up and wasnt intended to be a precision shooter. the best group i could get out of my ruger mini was 5 shots in 5-6 inches at 100 yards. but i'm probably not the best bench shooter in the club! you can really deck out the mini's though. if you ever get tired of the stock look, you can dress it up with all the tacticool accessories out there.

I didn't care much for the Laminated stock on the Target model either, so chose to go the Hogue Over molded rubber instead.

This is the third Mini-14 I have owned, the previous ones were at best 1-1/2 MOA guns, and that was only after extensive work and load development....so when this one started printing 1/2" groups right out of the box on it's first brass chucking premier...I figured Ruger must have really done some homework and tightened up their tolerances. The trigger group alone is far and above what the old ones came with....it's still not great, but it works.

I only chose to go this way as our wonderful Government deemed all Black rifles to be " Not Politically Correct " and classify them ALL as restricted.
I would love nothing better than to have a heavy barreled and accurized AR varient to take out to the Prairie Poodle Pastures.............but alas, not in our fair Country.

I just picked up the laminated version today. I have yet to scope it up and sight in, but I will report back with an accuracy report once I do. All I can say for now from simply handling it, is that it is one beutiful peice of work. For range work, where restricted vs. non wouldnt matter, perhaps an AR would be just a nice, but the ability to take this into the field and hunt with it makes it an easy choice for me. I think a sub-moa semi-automatic .223 would be hard to beat as a coyote getter.

Don't plan on an objective lens of 50mm or larger as it won't fit with the rings that come with the Target model..........I found that one out the hard way !! $$$$

I have a VX-II 3-9 X 50mm with the LR reticle in it.
I had to buy the High Rings, (sanblasted to match finish)which gave approximately 1/16" clearance between the handguard /heatshield and the objective bell. A 40mm should be no problem with the stock rings.
