If you look up Pieroway fly rods you get a very decent brand new rod for a very reasonable price. The element series rod is $250 buckaroos. Ive got myself one for throwing streamers and nymphing and love it. Local Calgary company as well.
As for a reel the orvis clearwater 2 Large Arbor is a good buy as well still under $100 dollars and good quality. Or the new templeforks series reels. Very happy with them all still keeping the bill under $400 dollars for both.
