Default Ruger Hawkeye Compact

Got a hard on to buy one in .308 ... any advice ???

I have shot them really nice for in the bush but i would go for a 243 or 7mm08 but thats what i like for cals in a short action

They're pretty nice little rifles. They sure kick like a dag-gum mule in that little configuration, but a really nice carrying rifle for the bush.

I've got one in 308, great little gun and it does not kick much. My wife uses it when she comes hunting and shoots it at the range no problems. The only thing I would say is there is more muzzle blast/noise from the shorter barrel.

I would consider the Ruger scout. Almost the same gun but with iron sights.

I have a .223 cal. It's been a great rifle for varmints and carrying all day. Super light, easy to shoot and anyone can shoot it and not struggle.


I have a Ruger Stainless Laminated Compact comes with an extra Boyd stock. .223 cal.
