Default grouse partrigde,pheasant?

Guys there is a bird im jumping out of places and was wondering what it was. Looks bigger than a ruffie it also seems very jumpy usually takes off 20 to 30 yards away. Seems to make squeaky noise as it flys? Doesnt really look like female pheasant. It looks lighter color than ruffie. Thanks

Partridge are smaller than grouse and usually in flocks of 5 or more, and are pretty skiddish when even getting remotely close,.. they tend to fly off about 30ft or more away from you.

Pheasant makes that goofing noise when it takes flight,..

When it flies off, is the tail short and wide, or long and narrow.

Also where are you located maybe that will help

East of Edmonton around Wabamum lake area. Jack pine grazing reserve to be exact. What kind of partridge would they be? They are sometimes right in the pastures. First thought pheasant but there are never any males.

How often do you flush them? Is there a decent number? I would like to try for some sharptails, never hunted them, so I would like to give it a shot. Which section of the reserve did you find them? Thanks.
