In the past I have taken their info, made sure their PAL was valid and not expired, taken the money, shook hands and called on Monday first thing to initiate transfer.

Or if you have agreed on a deal ahead of time, initiate the transfer ahead of time and go on your way. I have done it both ways.

Some people may disagree with this though.

I've done the same as Roughneck before. I'm also pretty sure CFC is open on Saturday, but the hours are limited, I'm thinking noon to four or something like that.

I've done it both ways as well. If the PAL is valid, you're perfectly legal to "loan" a non-restricted firearm until the transfer is done. Same premise as initiating a transfer and shipping prior to it actually being completed.

Obviously, waaaay different with restricted of course.

The only way to know if the PAL is valid is to call the CFC. Just because it hasn't expired doesn't mean the guy isn't wanted by the police for violent crime. It would be different if I was selling to a family member maybe but to be safe wait till monday and make the call.
