I don't believe they ever post current leaders. Rainbow is usually ~30 inches, Pike ~48 and Walleye ~33. Hoping my rainbow will win this year at 30 inches.

Thanks Ravyak,
I figured as much, but thought I would check. That sounds like a tank of a Rainbow! Nice work.

Don't have regs in front of me, but I'm 99.4% sure that only Rainbow trout, Northeren pike and Walleye qualify.

That's because the pike is usually the biggest fish. Catch a walleye bigger than the biggest caught pike and you'll get your trip

Cheers

If you read the fine print it is supposed to go to the fish that is closest to AB provincial record length not to largest fish.

Quote:
The Grand Prize will be awarded to the angler whose fish won its category and came closest (on a percentage basis) to the length of the
current provincial record for that species.
I don't know what the provincial record length for these fish is though as I have only ever found the weights...

The record walleye was 90 cm, 35.4 in.

According to alberta angler awards in previous years a 49.5 in was nearly 9% longer then current record pike so that would put it ~45.5 in.

Using same method a 29.5 in trout was 92% of record so record rainbow must have been 32 in.

So the pike always wins because the record weight pike was a short fatty.

So let me see if I have this straight...if A x B squared to the 2nd root of...

lol nice work Rav...you are truly a great fisherman! (notice I didn't say "lucky" or "have the most time" or "obsessed"). All joking aside it is well-deserved...let's see how 2016 goes :-) Oh wait I'm fishing less and you're fishing more this year....umm..2017?

Congrats Rav on winning the rainbow category. I was wondering why someone revived this old thread, but am glad they did.
