interesting thread - I used to shore fish Fraser River Sturgeon and from the pictures these look slightly different - spines seem a little less pronounced and snout a little longer. Mind you in the Fraser IIRC there was what we called snub nosed and long nosed Sturgeon - not really sure if it was two distinct species or not..

These also seem a little slimmer for the length - the biggest we managed to land from shore was just shy of 60" and weighed just over 90 lbs.

Pretty sure these are lake sturgeon and the fraser holds white sturgeon. I could be wrong and someone will be along shortly to correct me but thats how I always understood/misunderstood it.

You're probably correct - I'm a little confused about the classification of Lake and White sturgeon, in BC anyway I think they are mostly White - even the ones found in the lakes. Harrison Lake for example, has monster sturgeon in it, but they look exactly like the ones caught in the river. In fact I've talked to pilots that say in the right conditions they've seen monsters in the shallows of the Harrison/Fraser confluence.

Sadly I've come to terms with the fact that the season is over (for me). Caught nearly the same amount of sturgeon this year as last but in a fraction of the time spent fishing. A few highlights from the dying weeks leading up to the end of the season.

I think Ineptflux is allergic to smiling.......he just landed the biggest fish of his life and he still doesn't even smile for the camera....sheeesh. Then again maybe he's not smiling cause the waders were letting cold river water in at his crotch area....LOL

New season, what? First dino of the year, best part it was a sturgeon double header! Was a long wait during the winter months but finally back to open water.
