Default 9.9 mercury pro kicker

This might seem like a silly question but can't seem to find the answer online...

Can the late model merc pro kickers be stored on their side like most other small outboards?

Thanks!

I keep mine standing up. If you do lay it down keep the carb facing the sky.

I have a 6hp 4 stroke Merc. Just bought this year. Have to lay down on arm side for me if I lay it down.

i have a new 5hp 4 stroke mercury outboard and the instructions say to store it on its side with the handle facing up. i did this and oil was everywhere so i stored it traditional on a wooden sawhorse.

Pretty sure it is handle/arm down. Also has a sticker on it. BP said leading reason for bringing back for service is laying down on the wrong side.

Mercury switched some of their powerheads to have the carbs on a different side and didn't bother to update their manuals or even switch the stickers to the proper side. Always keep the carb facing up or it will fill with oil from the crank case.

I think you are 100% correct on that. The standard and big foots are made under contract by Tohatsu whereas the pro kicker, If I recall something I read on another forum, was the last model/series built domestically and they had/have some major differences.

This started in 2004/2005 and there was a period where motors were made (up to 50 hp) in either plant ..... so there was quite a bit of confusion.
