Default Ice Fishing Hut - Reviews ?

I am looking to buy a new SLED type ice fishing hut, the old one has out-lived itself (at least that's what I told the wife!). Any reviews / suggestions on sled type huts ? I was looking at both Clam and Frabill. Has to be a two man.

I like the eskimo quickfish 3. Not much bigger than a 2 man but the extra seat is nice plus the fishing area inside is excellent size. I've looked at them all, and this is the one I'd buy. Will be getting one either this year on the sales or beginning of next.

nicemustang - if you notice I said I wanted a sled style not a pop up that is going to blow away in the wind, but thanks for your input.

Seconded. Friend just bought one (from the CBSS reduced from $250 to $200) and it's excellent. Sturdy, solid, very quick to put up and tear down, and the ice anchors are pretty decent too.

Only think Mustang... didn't he ask about flip-over sled style tents?

We had the QuickFish 3 out at Travers yesterday. Wind was an average 40km/h, with gusts up to 80km/h.

Solid as a rock.

I have the quickflip 2.... bought the rails and towbar to pull behind my sled..... Love the tent but it is heavy especially with the power auger and all the gear in it... It takes a long tiem to pack everything and unpack it so that it all fits in the tent.

IMO I woudl buy a pop up and get a tow behind sled for your snow mobile...

And if anyone wants to buy my quickflip 2 I woudl be open to reasonable offers.

I bought the Frabill Exlporer from Bass Pro for $499 a couple weeks ago.
Three man flip with a bench seat. I like it. Sets up really fast (after the first assembly that is). And the extra room to set stuff on having the bench is nice.
Did well in the wind yesterday.
I had to wait for the Bass Pro guys to dig me one out of a storage tailor when I bought it though.
That Quickflip 3 at Fishin Hole for $549.00 looks like a good unit also. 3 swivel seats. Seat would be more comfy than a bench I think. If I saw that one first I may have bought it.
The other similar one I saw was the Team Wild. It was more money. And when I sat on the bench one one end because of the slope of the sled it tips over. Bad design.

The sled type huts are nice to haul gear in, ok to set up, but when the wind blows you might be in a for a ride. My friend has a frabill he leaves at home and he just sits on the ice on his bucket. Saves him being blown across the lake. Mind you its pretty windy in my parts of the woods... prairie.

I would like to buy a Clam Nanook. They are $389.95 at Wholesale and on sale for $279.99 at Cabelas.ca . Any suggestions where a guy might find a good deal?

If you have a concern about wind, there are a couple options to think about. One easy one I can think of is to get a couple of those ice anchors. Take the tent part to a tent place and get them to put metal grommets in all four corners. Then you can use the anchors.

If your pulling it with a snowmobile or quad don't disconnect it. either that or go to some tent cord from campers village and drill some holes in the base too!
