A better option: An ultralight rod and a frabill popper spring bobber. Thread 2 lb through it and it works very well so seeing every bite. Don't NEED and UL rod, but it helps.

Those spring bobbers work great but 10 bucks seems a little steep. I got some HT ones at wholesale last year, 3 bucks for a 2 pack.
If you dont want to go out and buy one i have heard you can Put a ziptie on the last guide, tighten it up and poke a small hole in the end. you run your line through the hole in ziptie then to your lure.

Hope that makes sense!
Good luck Perchin

if you dont have a marmish rod id strongly recocment the spring bobers cause they also can detect a whitefish sucking in your lure if the weight of your hook is heavey enough.

i always use bobbers for perch and i find as long as the bobber is small it would work well. even the simple kids orange/white or white/red plastic bobbers in the smallest size works well for sensitivity, and when i set the hook using the fixed bobbers i just hand line it in.cost of the kids/plastic bobbers are like $0.20 each. i tend to carry a variety of assortment in sizes and styles.

love the small thill slip bobs for perch and trout - notice it on my rod in the pic below... especially when they prefer little to no movement...
