Default Bow river help

Ive lived near Calgary my entire life, yet i still have never fished the bow river. I feel kind of silly living so close to one of the worlds best trout fisheries yet never fishing it. So im in need of some help. At the moment i will not be able to float it (getting a float boat soon) so i will be stuck to wadding the shores and water edge. But i have no clue where to go. Im looking to go somewhere around southern Calgary but i don't know of any locations? I got myself all exited about giving the bow river a go for the first time until i realized i had no clue where to go. So any advise is welcome. If someone is willing to help, which would be really appreciated, you can PM if you don't want to reply here.

Thanks

I guess what part of the city your looking to hit. There is a post on here some wear with the names of most popular sections.pretty much walk the banks anywhere and whatch for fish I find most of my new spots just watching foam lines the rivers changed a lot and there is a ton of new water but not all of it is fishy even if it looks like it should be.

Along with Fish Creek Park as already mentioned, Policeman's Flats and McKinnon Flats are two other popular areas to fish.

I'm in a similar position as 270WINCHESTER, live a block from the Bow in the SE but never fished it.. I'm thinking of trying fly fishing but will start off just spinning with a Rapala or maybe worms. I've heard that something like 2500 fish per mile on the bow, mostly what, browns and brookies?

The fish in the Bow near Calgary are mostly brown and rainbow trout, and rocky mountain whitefish. It's also possible to catch the odd bull, brook, and lake trout, as well as pike.

Start with streamers & nymphs and work some dries as you progress.

I had good luck today nymphing with a small pheasants tail nymph just above the parking lot in the first really deep pool that you will see walking by at policeman's flats, landed one nice rainbow and lost 2 more that were of nice size as well.
